Will Sins Run on Windows 64 bit?

Hi,

Well, im in a delima, haha, i guess that is normal lately, with trying to decide between a quad desktop or a dual laptop, but wanted to ask if Sins will run on windows 64?  Both computers are running it, and the guy at the store of course says yes, of course, but they sometimes say anything to sell something. So wanted to ask what people are running here.

Not only that, another delima, but Windows 7 is "supposed" to go on early sale, like pre-sale i guess, on the 26th and of course its not the 26th yet, so if i wait another 3 weeks its like ok, new Windows 7 too!  :)  Or maybe, maybe Sins isnt for Windows 7 yet, so im trying to decide, decide, decide...  :)

Anyway, thank you for the input anyway,

Take care,

-Teal

To answer your first question, yes, Sins will run on 64-bit Windows. I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit on my laptop, and it runs great. I have no idea about Windows 7, though.

Hope this helps

Vista home premium 64 bit laptop here. Sins runs like a charm.

64 bit is the way to go now especially since systems are starting to use quad core cpu's, and 4 gigs, or more of ram. 32 bit can only read 3.5 gigs max

WinXP Pro x64 Edition runs it just fine.

haven't tried 7 or xp, but home premium 64 bit runs sins beautifully.

ultimate 64-bit as well.  No issues other than a random sound crackle or two.

You All are Great!!!!  Thank you for all the feedback!!  :)  I'm still trying to decide on laptop, which is more than my old desktop, or a quad desktop, the quad is more memory and less money, haha, but everyone in the house is on the computers when i get home, so was hoping for just one of my own, you know?

Anyway, maybe not a good reason for a laptop, but thought i might get to use it more.  :)  Haha, fat chance, but the quad of course everyone would be like, "well... im just doing this for a while..."

Anyway, too many anyways, but thank you thank you, for all the nice comments, helps me know the windows 64 is ok!!

:)

I appreciate it,

Take care,

I'll let everyone know what i get, haha, if i can finally decide on something!!  :)

teal as far as making it difficult for others in the house to use, I would suggest a PASSWORD protected login in either v**ta64 or win7 64, and NO accounts without a password.

Sins run on Vista64 however it will use only 2GB of RAM as it runs as a 32bit application.

Until 64bit OS will not be the de-facto standard a 64bit version of Sins won't be released.

That's the reply I got from the support team when I was experiencing lots of 'out of memory' minidumps, the latest patch which improved memory handling, if I got that right, partially resolved the issue but I still crash if I set all details to highest and it seems theres nothing I can do about it...

teal if you BUY the computer it should be yours, but if others have contributed to it then they should also have access in proportion to ther contribution. at least that seems fair to me

I used to be all about pc's.  But let me tell ya - it's GREAT not having to be tied down to any one location.  I can game anywhere I want.  And if I feel like going outside, I just close the lid and move the laptop and power adapter outside while Sins is still running.  Good times!

Not fully true... if you have more that 4gb ram, any 32 bits application on XP/Vista x64 will use the WOW64 mode who allow a full 4gb for the application...

If have sins running on XP pro x64, Vista home x64, Linux x64 and Solaris x64 ( impulse and online game don't work yet with Solaris )... on the Linux system, i have game who have use a little more that 11gb ram ( big mod, 10 player + pirate, huge multistar map, all graphic setting on very high, etc )...  on linux, if you have a graphic card with a lot of memory ( 1gb or more ), you can compile yourself your own wine version and having the texture cached in the graphic card memory in place of the main memory... it speed the graphic and spare main memory...

Sins is a wonder game who work on almost everything... and if you have a top computer, you can really enjoy epic battle with huge mod and several hundred of planet...

I dont mean to steal the thread but im starting to constantly run into mini dumps and crashes in win 7 x64, no matter what mod i use or if any for that matter. Anyone have a suggestion on what compatability i should be running it at?

Hmm, I don't run Sins under any compatability mode with Win7 64. If anything it's always seemed to be one of the stablest games in Win7. (I even ran it on my 4 yr old laptop under Win7 last weekend without any issues. (well a few slowdowns loading when zooming in/out because of slow HD & single core & limited RAM & old video card, but no compatability related issues)

Actually, I was fairly impressed by how well it was running under Win7 on an older system once I lowered the texture qualities to reduce memory useage. (4200 RPM HD, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB x600 GPU) I think it actually says quite a bit about the way Sins was designed that it is still so playable on laptop hardware 3yrs older than the game running a brand new OS.

I had this problem at the beginning when i got windows 7. If you have an Nvidia video card there is a pre realease driver that you need to install. then it should stop minidumping. If you have another video card they might have a driver but im not sure.

hope this helps.

Laptop vs Desktop... Pro's and cons on both ends.

Desktop cpu, and graphics gards obviously will always be more powerfull than an equivilent laptop cpu/gpu's.

If a desktop breaks u can just change the broken component. If laptop hardware breaks other than ram or CPU u might as well just toss it in the trash.

Laptops can go anywhere. Desktop can too... Its just a pain in the ass to tote it around :p

You need electricity for the desktop where u can run a laptop on battery for at least 3 hrs without a power supply.

You can upgrade desktops fairly easy where the only upgrade you can do with a laptop is ram. Unless you are like me and buy it with memory maxed out. then you cant upgrade at all. Unless you consider buying a new laptop an upgrade :)

32 bit games and apps are still gonna be around for a while. However i dont see new stuff staying 32 bit. Soon 32 bit will be phased out. Might as well prepare for the inevitable. I am just glad the 64 bit OS's can still run most 32 bit apps.

So if I mount 8GB of RAM instead of those 4GB I have currently it will resolve my problem?

Why support team didn't told me that? It would have been simpler and they were provided with my computer specs.

System specs: q9550 @3.85ghz, 4gig ddr2 ram @ 1081 mhz, x48 mobo, ATI 4870 1gb, Auzen Forte X-fi sound card (awesome upgrade compared to onboard sound, believe me), and a 640 gig 3gb/s sata hdd.

I installed the latest CCC drivers for win 7 x64, unless somethign got messed up in the process. Im also wondering if my new soundcard could be the cause. No new drivers or beta ones released yet for it though. bah
