Can't get Galaxy Forge to work

Vista says I have NET 2 with the opperating system, and I downloaded Winrar, but every time I try to run Galaxy Forge, no luck. I've extracted it, tried making an addons folder in Sins, but whenever I try to open the application part, I get a message saying that it's stopped working and needs to close.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Try updating your .NET anyway. If it just came pre-installed with your OS, there used to be some issues with incompleteness.

I'm downloading 3.5, because I didn't see how to update 2. I'm guessing this should work too, and I might as well get it either way.

Yes, 3.5 will work fine :) If that doesn't work, you'd probably have to email [email protected] so they can help you figure it out. I don't know of Galaxy Forge needing anything else.

Actually, that made it work! Thanks a lot!

However, one more question takes it's place- I made a dumb map to test, and it works and all, but I found it in the "Small maps" section. I'd rather isolate my uninspired random placement of planets. Is there any way to force it to be in the Galaxy Forge section, or otherwise away from the rest of them?

Unfortunately not, it gets placed in the size categories according to the map settings. The "custom" category there is for the auto-generated maps with the ingame editor.

if you save the map in the program files galaxy folder then depending on the number of players and number of planets & stars it is placed in the deifferent sizes ie small, medium & large in vanilla sins ONLY.

for entrenchment with the map in the program files galaxy folder the map will NOT be seen unless you modify the galaxy.manifest

assuming you have sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also neet the sins map updater from here

Hey harpo I don't know if you know this or not but is you place the maps in the forge folder they will not load correctly. If you try to load the map you will get a defeat message and the game will end.

shadowl I have many maps that I have created and I place all of my maps in the galaxyforge folder ONLY. if you place galaxy forge maps in the old user space galaxy( now mapdesigner) folder yes INSTANT DEFEAT, also instant defeat with only one player or player(s) without home planets. as blair and myself have stated the galaxyforge 3 maps are to go in the galaxyforge folder unless you want to hack the galaxy.manifest in the entrenchment folder every time you add a map when you place the galaxy in the program files galaxy folder. oh by the way the galaxy manifest is VERY case sensitive ie one letter with the WRONG case will cause an error (from memory it is a ctd, but might only be a fail to read all following maps in the file)

Ok I must be doing somethin wrong I have tried every folder and I still get an instant defeat message and yes every player has a home world. Is this galaxy forge folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge, or is it in, C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge 3. Or do I have to create a galaxy forge folder, or do I just start from scratch and redo it if so where do I put the galaxy forge at. There is no galaxyforge in my entrenchment folder.

shadowl the documents and settings is the correct one for sins 1.16+/entrenchment 1.02+

if you want some help debugging the maps you could email a rar(7zip or zip also handled) of them to me at harpo99999 at hotmail.com, and I will check and fix them
