If you compare it to the show, I'd take the original at the drop of a hat, minus the extra cheesy episodes. If you compare it to the movies, OMFG that first one sucked.
If they follow the same pattern this time around, the next movie will be the best movie ever made in the history of mankind. If they don't improve, I'd still take the original. It's way better than TMP, but nothing on TWOK.
There is no comparison really. The new trek movie is based on an alternate timeline. Its a reboot. We will always have the classic trek. I personally thought JJ did a good job with the movie. There of course will always be nit picky things we can argue about 'till doomsday, but there really is no point. Overall the movie was good. JJ got the "feel" of trek down, and that is what matters.
I loved the JJ Abrams movie, but I never got to see the originals. Luckily, a little thing called Netflix can solve that.
WHY OH GOD WHY DO THESE PEOPLE KEEP RAPING MY CHILDHOOD?!STOP! FOR ALL THE IS GOOD AND HOLY, PLEASE JUST STOP! ;_;
*sobs*
This re-boot is fine, as long as they use it as a jumping off point for entirely new stories and adventures, and take advantage of the whole 'new timeline' thing they've created. If they even attempt to use Khaan in any subsequent films, it becomes clear they have no intention of making new stories and characters and are meerly riding the re-make train for the hell of it.
TWOK is perfect, thus any remake would eat shit and die. Maybe some of the others could get by with it...
I've tried very hard to quit being a postmodernist, but...
Denny Crane.
yes, this is true..The movie was still good even if it is a remake..
i thought the new one was great. And it fell on an uneven number !
only thing that bothers me is that it sets the pace for a different star trek universe that isn't based on gene roddenberrys vision of a civilized and generally peace promoting society anymore. it looks more like bushs america in space ... or like the beginnings of the evil mirror universe of those cheesy original series.
I'd actually like a movie/TV show in the Mirror Universe, as long as the Terran Empire was portrayed realistically. Stories of backstabbing, intregue (sp?) , and rebellion would be a nice change of pace IMAO.
I agree totally, but the movie was fun enough to watch anyway. Better than I expected a ST movie to be.
I'm not the "everything but the original sucks" kind of fan, so I hope they will continue with movies or a series. Just as long as they don't go all Die Hard on the action.
had enough of that in the new battlestar galactica.
star trek was the only space exploration series i know of ... peaceful (relatively) space exploration.
although they mostly found bullshit.
