observing games online... can you do it?

i was just wondering if there is a way to observe live games online

You could play with unlocked teams and have vision treaty with both/all combatants.

but you would still have play the game? i kind of wanted to watch someone else play it before i gave it a shot online...

You can ask others for replays of saved games, then. You asked for observing them "live", so I thought you wanted to talk to them about it as well etc.

i was having trouble watching the replays posted on this site. i would save the zip file to the single player-recorded games file, but it wouldn't show up in the game when i went to watch it. i have a feeling that im doing something wrong:(

Can't help you there, never bothered with replays. I'm more the try&error type of guy.

Place the .record file in the following place:

...\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Record-MultiPlayer

Then, in-game find your "Watch" section. At the bottom of the list, there should be an option to change the "Save Type". You should then find your list for multiplayer replays.

Also keep in mind that the replays become invalidated with each new patch. So 90% of the replays currently posted on the forums will no longer work.

They should still appear on the list in game though. It will just say "Invalidate save file" or something like that. Senorfrito above tells you how to put them in there.
