ship spacing

ok, im sure many of you are tired of seeing the ships in your fleet crashing into each other while executing turns and such. i was looking for lines in the ship files that dictates the min and max distance but didnt see it, (maybe i just missed it in my tired state) so is it in the ship files or is it someplace else?

thnx for the help.

I don't think there's a setting for that anywhere. Just the formation # for the ship to place it at the head/middle/rear of the fleet.

it might not be clear but it has to be somewere other wise the ships would just run into each other all the time no? i could have sworn i saw something like this some where (when i was tweaking a mod) but now i dont remember were.

might tweak the sheilds. I think ships use that to detect when they slam into one another. Increasing the shield size should keep them from bumping into the actual ships.

maybe but then i have these tiny ships with massive sheilds being emitted lol. on second thought it wont work that way, the mod mentioned above used expanded shields to cover the whole ship but b/c the ships were bigger they were always right on top each other.

Well as the game has different formation sizes it stands to reason that you can adjust it in game so a good area to look at this would be the formation command as you can set close med or large perhaps making large a little bigger may sort this problem.

from what i understand from reading the ingame info things, the command your referring to historic, regulates how far the ships can move away from the flag and not the regualr spacing of the formation.

im gonna look around in the game constants file and see what i find, since its a bit odd to see your ships crash into each other without hearing "we've stustained critical damage on all decks. we're going down, god help us." lol

Yes I suspect it is the shield mesh that dictates spacing.. I've fiddled with everything to no effect.

Somebody might want to resize a shield mesh on a scout by say, 10 times... and see if they still huddle closely in formation.

There is a resize tool in the Modding forums over to at http://sins.imperial.cc

what about the ships' rectangle box, what about that part:

MeshData
    hasValidTangents TRUE
    BoundingRadius 500.100830
    MaxBoundingExtents [ 88.552811 59.779999 169.645996 ]
    MinBoundingExtents [ -91.425690 -59.025002 -170.354004 ]
    NumMaterials 1

Waking up an old thread here. Did someone find a solution to the original question? Changing mesh data for a ship and its shields as ice suggested did not help at all in my experiments.

lolz i don't know  i have made humongous capital ships with  radius of 909.2 and they still hit the frigates etc

maybe there is no solution almost every space game i have ever played conquest frontier wars, O.R.B( they died when they hit each other). the only that i have played that doesn't is sword of the stars but i think its part of the engine
