Symbols on Planets: Is there a list? What do they mean?

I know that a present artifact on a planet is symbolized on the zoomed-out scale with an eighth arc with an arrow pointing to it . . . but what are the other planet symbols?  Specifically, when my planet is bracketed with arrows coming out of the brackets.  What are those crazy symbols? Where can I look to find a list of them?

as far as i know, the only planetary symbols are for artifacts and Capital planets

hopefully Diplomacy will expand on this a bit, it would be nice =)

Yes, the sideways arrows denote a capital, and the bottom arrow is an artifact. That's it :)

I noticed this last night actually. I was wondering what they meant. Are those symbols always up?  I would imagine not, so what research do you have to get to see these?

to see the capitol planet brackets, research scrolling the view out until you see them.

for artifacts you have to search the planet and hope the spaec ponies will favor you with shiney things.

They are always up provided that you scouted the other players' homeworlds, and that the artifact on that planet has actually been found by anyone.

Once an artifact is found, all empires see the symbol under the planet and know one is there - but only the finder knows what it is.

Once you scout another player's capital, you will see the symbol for it after you leave. If the player changes the capital to another planet, it will not automatically update, you will have to discover the new capital. It's similar to fog of war where it shows you what you discovered, just doesn't update it. So in <insert RTS here> you might find some enemy building and when you leave it still shows you through the fog of war that the building was there, but the next time you have line of sight it may not be there anymore.

I know the artifact label is always visible... but I don't think the capital one shows if you don't have a ship or a remote sensor there.

There is no research required for these planet markings - they are there to denote planets with either of those special properties.

Dauntless, is your avatar taken from the cover of the book Ender's Game?
