Pick a Side: The Forum Game

The rules are fairly simple here, we have a two sided topic and you just have to choose a side and present evidence why you chose that side. The topics will alternate and you can change sides. I will try and stay away from religious/inflammatory topics so dont post about them and respect other peoples beliefs.

First Topic: Most interesting to read. Fiction or Non-fiction?

Im starting small but we'll work our way up to more interesting topics. at the end ill tally the posts for each side and tell you who won and then we'll pick a new topic. feel free to suggest topics.

AS OF NOW: Just Choose between the Choice above you and Then make a new Choice.

RTS. Simple, why be the grunt when you can be the general?

RTS all the way! FPS battles are puny in comparison.

FPS. I like to look my enemy in the eye before I kill him with that shotgun/energy sword/plasma gun thingy.

This is a hard one!

I'll go with RTS. Allthough i find FPS more entertaining in multiplay (teams and such), RTS keep me interested a lot longer. Besides, FPS always comes down to the same thing: storyline, evil race/organisation wants to kill you, someone close to you dies, you go avenge him. RTS is a bit more original.

RTS

More control, more interesting storylines (sometimes) easier to play 'pretend' (so, building a light wall around a mining outpost with a ground defense turret, AA-gun and a few tanks/infantry to defend against enemy units that are never going to come, just because you can, so you can 'make-believe' and make the story a little more interesting)

Takes longer to complete an RTS, ive never had an FPS take me longer than 18-20 hours to complete (including food and toilet breaks etc)

RTS has more replayability than most FPS, because you can play on many maps (and there are often more Skirmsh maps in an RTS game because its easier to build than an FPS map that needs to be a higher quality product (graphics) made from scratch just for MP, rather than RTS where they can take generally standardised 'tiles' and place them on a flat surface)

RTS, why get yourself killed when you can get others killed first.

RTS, i love to boss grunts around and have the satisfaction of seeing the enemy totally and completely crushed under a mass infantry, tank and artillery assault.

also, FPS are fun in the short term, until i finish them and then i'm bored. A RTS lasts waaaaaaaayy longer (I also love being called general, or commander, it flatters my ego ^^)

FPS - the Flak Cannon was made for me

FPS.  I like it up close and personal.  I bathe in the blood of my enemies!

FPS. HaloCE was the climax of my childhood.

RTS.

For one... I have played Call of Duty... the battles are OK, but you can't really get to be in the WHOLE thing... not like in RTS.

EDIT\\ Oh, and Veers, when you made this game, where you just bored, or were you trying to scam Karma?:P

RTS

I have been an RTS gamer all of my life, and cause this is a SINS fourm

Although I do like some FPS, Zombie Panic for one

I prefer RTS though i do play FPS.

I like being in charge and being called General. That and i love crushing ppl beneath the heel of a mighty war machine

No im trying to scam karma. I was a little bored but i thought it out instead of just posting it

EDIT: almost forgot has anyone ever played a Total War game?

Asking FPS vs. RTS in a message board for an RTS will probably give you a skewed result; guess which side it'll be skewed towards?

Anyway, I prefer FPS. Better storylines, more character interaction and development, and generally more vibrant worlds. While there are a few exceptions (such as World in Conflict), FPSs generally are more realistic and more story-based. Mind you, I'm not talking about generic games like (bracing for flame) Halo 3 or most COD games. I'm talking about games like Half-Life 2.

Not to mention the obvious aspect of immersion. With an FPS game, it feels like you are the character you're playing as, especially with controllers like the Novint Falcon. With an RTS you're just a floating camera in the sky.

Of course, I still enjoy RTSs. If it weren't for the performance problems I seem to experience with any large-scale RTS game, you can bet I'd be playing SupCom and SoaSE most of the time. Due to the aforementioned performance issue, however, I can play neither for more than an hour or two.

I brought empire: total war but it won't work on my computer, the poor thing's too old   X(

Oh Im sorry to hear that. I had to buy a new video card to be able to play it

Also what about TBS? (turn-based strategy)

Sorry, double post

Happy Fourth of July (to Americans)

I'm not American, but thank you ^^

The only TBS i own is Gal Civ II with the 2 expansions, but i love it. (though even in beginner the AI is smarter than me, i don't think that's good news for me)

FPS - more apt to be able to sit down and play without knowing the caveats/stats of that particular game.  Also, resource farming is super lame.  (truth be told, I don't play either very often)

Besides, FPS always comes down to the same thing: storyline, evil race/organisation wants to kill you, someone close to you dies, you go avenge him. RTS is a bit more original.

Story in RTS: there's a war going on and you want to win -slash - take over the world?

(though I enjoyed the story of Homeworld: Cataclysm, and WC3 was pretty epic, though it has plenty of cliches)

I got Empire: Total war, and had to spend a while getting modded drivers for my crappy graphics card (gma950), but it works!

Is it good?

Ok The Votes have been tallied and here is the result

RTS: 9            FPS: 5

RTS IS THE WINNER!

ok TBS claimed no actual support so it loses.

Time for a new topic. Feel free to post ideas and we'll start a new topic soon

Who do you miss more, Billy Mays or MJ?

or

Star Wars vs. Star Trek.

Since I do not actually know either, nor have they had any direct impact on my life, I can't say I would miss either.  However, I think that MJ's death was, by far, more shocking.

So MJ.

Not to hate or anything, but while Billy and Micheal are STILL being mourned, and their families are STILL suffering, hundreds if not thousands of other people are out there dying right now, but nobody cares about them because their not famous, so their funerals and obituaries are unheard of because they're being overshadowed.

So, neither. I hate celebrities, to be honest.
