"The Legions" mod for SoaSE&Entrenchment

"The Legions" mod for SoaSE&Entrenchment

for v1.17&v1.03 respectively

I'm Whiskey144 (in-game name 'Lord Vraxedes' or 'Vraxedes Empire'), and this is a post about a mod I'm currently planning (July 4, 2009). It will feature at least 2 new races, new ships for all races, and some new structures as well. They will be constructed of both modified vanilla/Entrenchment models and new ones of my design.

!!IMPORTANT!! AT THIS TIME THIS MOD IS STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGE. MODELS AND SCRIPTING WILL (HOPEFULLY) START SOON. For some really great things, you have to wait a little while.

Currently planned races- the Legion of Vraxedes

                                   the Empire of Taun'Shas

The fluff (currently, may be subject to change):

When the Legion of Vraxedes Exile Fleet arrived on the edges of Trader space, they met a fearsome battle. With previous experience likely dictating that for the TEC, a 'shoot 1st and ask questions later' philosophy would be better, the fleet was severaly damage. However, no ships were lost, and numerous Trader vessel hulks lingered the battlefield. From these hulks, and from espionage in major Trader shipyards, the designs were copied, improved, and received updated Vraxeden armaments. With their newly reinforced Exile Fleet in place, they began to make their way through the fringes of Trader space. A second fleet, scheduled for rendezvous with the 1st, entered Vasari space. The Vasari instantly engaged the ships, thinking them to be new Trader designs. When they learned of the powerful weapons of the Legion, they sent emissaries to make peace. Unfortunately for the Vasari Exodus Fleet, the Legion would not engage in parley. The emissaries were sent away, and then their ships were destroyed. The attack was blamed on the convenient excuse of space pirates, and the Vasari, disbelieving the reports, declared war on the Legion. On the other side of Trader territory, a splinter fleet of the 9th Explorator Fleet, thought to be lost since before the Halcyon Era (~7,000 yrs ago), arrived
in newly conquered sectors now under the control of the Unity (Advent). The Advent viciously attacked the splinter fleet, believing themselves to be 'cleansing the galaxy of heretics'.

This was their worst mistake. When they too learned of the powerful weapons and technologies of the Vraxeden people, the sent emissaries to negotiate technology sharing. The emissaries were returned as stone-cold corpses. The Legion was purposely infuriating the Advent, as negotiations with several Trader factions had revealed the error of the TEC. This allowed for the TEC to begin reconciling themselves with the Legion, while the Advent swore that they would 'cleanse the galaxy of this new heresy-the Vraxeden people'. Meanwhile, the Vasari were rapidly developing new weapons, and beginning to mobilize the Destroyer Fleet, a new fleet created for the purpose of destroying the Legion. While the Vasari tried admirably, they fail spectacularly. When the vanguard of the fleet arrived, they were promptly destroyed, but communications sensor hacking ensured that an 'all-clear' signal was broadcasted for the rest of the fleet, allowing the Vasari to be led unknowingly into the sights of the Legion's best gunners.

WITH VALOR!!!!- battlecry of the Legion's warriors, it symbolizes the ideals of their warrior culture

The newly arisen Empire of Taun'Shas is intent on expanding their borders to include the known galaxy. With this difficult-to-reach ambition in place, the Empire began to expand its borders. As they expanded, they have advanced rapidly, to deal with local resistance, outside attack, and the remote possibility of internal rebellion and disorder. With their expansion came a price- much like the Vasari Empire they created their own downfall. Discontent people on the core worlds and initially-conquered clusters rebelled in force and numbers to significant for the leaders of Taun'Shas to do anything except escape. Even then, many of them barely succeeded, and several did not.

With this blow to their pride and their empire, the Taun'Shas people are hoping for an easy conquest of the newly discovered Trade Order. What they found was multiple systems entrenched in essentially a stalemate war, trying to hold off each other for as long as possible. The technologies of these races were captured, stolen and studied extensively to determine their properties. With this knowledge in place, the remnants of the Empire of Taun'Shas are ready to assume their perceived rightful place in the galaxy. They believe utterly in their purpose, completely in their power, and solidly
that they will eventually prevail. They do not believe it will be easily won, but they believe that won it will be.

ONWARD TO GLORY!!!!- battlecry of the Taun'Shas people, it symbolizes their desire to regain their former status in all of its glory and more.

Any new ideas on additional races will be welcome.

Pronunciation guide- Vraxedes= VRAX-AY-DEES

Taun'Shas= TOWN-SHAS (pretty much like it looks)

So... kinda like the Go'auld from SG-1?  Only without the parasitic snake part...

I'm not as familiar with the Go'auld. But no parasites. They simply kill you, eat you, and process/absorb your genetic information.

On the flip side, this isn't like a special organ Space Marines have in 40k, called the omaphagea (hope I spelled it right). It's connected to the Stomach and the Brain, and allows the Marine to eat an enemy's brain and gain their knowledge. They will have the ability to operate a weapon the enemy uses and that the Marine couldn't figure out, but they won't understand the strange symbols. They have the ability to operate, but not understand.

Odd.. You do realize that they need domination type abilities then...  Perhaps have a cap that has nothing but abilities that cause you to gain control of the enemy.  A0 neutrals.  A1 is planets.  A2 is structures (like turrets).  A3 is frigates.

Oh, and watch SG-1 on Hulu some time...  If you're into sci-fi (which you surely are since you're here) then you would like it.  It addresses darn near every conspiracy theory (except for the Kennedy assassination) and has an explanation of it.  Sounds weird, but its cool...

Basically, the Gau'auld or more commonly referred to as Guld, are an alien parasitic snake-like race that need hosts to survive.  That said, they are also the second most advanced race in the galaxy.  Gulds have genetic memory, so every Guld has all the knowledge of its ancestors.  Now, these things play a part as the polytheistic gods of ancient times.  Ie: Egyptian gods.  Ra for instance is a Guld.  Anubis, and the others are as well.  They simply posed as gods to mine an element called Naquada from the earth which is used in the construction of stargates.

Another race is the Asguard.  These are the little grey guys with big black eyes.  And yes, they have flying saucers.  They however are the friendly ones and ally with earth in a war against the Guld.  Although they are infinitely more advanced, the Asguard have far fewer numbers due to a war in their home galaxy against a race that is only slightly less advanced than they.  Oh, and they do have teleportation and can beam you up.

Stargates (surely you know what they are) are portals that create wormholes between planets.   They were created by the Ancients or Elders who created all other humanoid races.  This includes Touri (what the Asguard and Guld call use), the Asguard, the Nox, some other one that I can't remember but is important to the storyline, and the Unis.  There are others, but these are the dominant humanoid races in the galaxy.

the Cretacus don't have the omaphagea. They absorb information at the DNA level. They also don't have the ability to crew enemy ships. Neutrals/Planets yes, and overrunning a ship/structure certainly. But they don't really take control.

Aww... It would be cool though...

At any rate, read my previous post... I edited it...

ah. I see. I have watched some SG-1, and we have the ORIGINAL movie. I never saw the entire thing, but I remember that the Asguard were battling the Replicators (I think).

However, the Cretacus don't actually have a genetic memory in that sense. They can remember previous forms of adaption, as they actually will store some of their dead for future use.

i've read all the replies on this post and would like to say sounds fucking awesome, to be honest i think u are going a little over board and giving yourself too much work, you should probably stick to 3 races but it's your mod do as you please. and to correct u on stargate knowledge( i own all 10 seasons of sg-1 and own all 5 seasons of atlantis), the goa'uld first took the unas as hosts until they discovered earth and humanity, which they pretended to be our gods so they could use us as hosts and slaves, hosts because our physiology is easy to repair heal of diseases, slaves because they needed us to mine naquada the precious resource that is the basis of their technologyand does not naturally form on earth.the asgard live in a whole other galaxy and use to look like us until an unfortunate error in their cloning causing their imenent death as a race, the ancients came here billions of years ago and created humanity in their own image but were not responsible for the creation of any other race in our galaxy, the asgard, the ancients, the furlings, and the nox formed an alliance. the furlings are extinct as far as the series suggests the ancients have evolved to a higher plane of existance and refuse to interfere with the lower plane of existance, and the nox have gone in hiding choosing to live life peacefully. and the asgard replicaters are more advanced then the asgard(i.e. they are as advanced as the tech they consume).

as for an idea on the cretacus, u should watch stargate atlantis and pay attention to the wraith(ironically they are also a spawn of the ancients unintentionally). they are half human half insect and their ships are biological in nature

I didn't feel like mentioning the Unas...

Although I did think that the Earth did at one time have Naquadah, but maybe not...

Yes, I know the Asguard aren't from this galaxy, but they live here as well as their own.  I don't think it was an accident though...  Their version of cloning is duplicate the DNA of all Asguard and replicate the structure of one's mind upon death so as to make their race "immortal."  That is my understanding anyways...

it was an error in their dna that they ignored and now it has degraded the bodies so now they look like the little grey men of conspiracy

don't give up whiskey you've got an awesome mod going, just saying you should lighten your load a little

well, unfortunately, this is DEAD. It just is for the moment, if it ever does get resurrected. Right now though some of the ideas that I came up with this are functioning well (Phase Jump HW-to-enemy HW (so long as it's in-system) anyone? hehehehe). It's possible that some of the stuff planned for Legions will make it into my current mod (which is very hush-hush ATM, so DON'T BOTHER ASKING), though essentially it will be just stat-wise (I have no modelling/texturing talent to speak of ATM (for myself anyway)).

However, I AM NOT SPEAKING OF THIS NEW MOD!! Try all you want, you'll never get a peep out of me until the time has come. I will say this though- IF (and a very big IF at that) I can figure out some very interesting abilities (such as making them work w/o minidumping the game, or having EXTREMELY specific constraints, or features), then it will be a go-ahead. However, DON'T EXPECT A RELEASE before the beta release of the Halo mod. CRAP! I've said to much already!

"Read between the lines. Do you think that that's REALLY what they want? No, there is something much more to this, something deeper. I have but to look around myself to know that."- Attributed to Markus Valco, the Merc Lord of Vega.
