Where are the old patches?

I was trying to find an email for tech support but I guess spending $50 on this game doesn't make me worthy of that.

I hope someone here can point me towards the old patches, I have been looking for about an hour but cannot find anything before 1.3, and the mod I wish to play requires 1.2 or earlier.

And can someone explain this godforsaken Impulse program? It doesn't even tell you what it's downloading, it just says 'updating!'  At least Steam has the good taste to tell you what is going on.

They usually respond pretty quick.

The old patches cannot be found.  Impulse updates to the newest version whenever you ask for an update.  You can ask Impulse to backup your games at their current version and restore later, but I don't think you can recover a version without having done that previously. The one exception to this would be v1.05 of the vanilla verion of Sins.  It was distributed as a stand-alone patch because Impulse wasn't at 100% yet.  You may be able to find it, but it won't help you with any newer mods.

As an aside: Most mods built for 1.03 will work on 1.02.  I'd give it a shot.

I believe it does tell you what's going on.  If you're updating software other than the client itself, an "Updates" tab will appear where you can watch all the updates in progress.  If it says "updating the game," it's probably already downloaded everything -unless you just started the update.  If it says "updating" and it's not tied to a game (it'd be in the bottom left corner of every page, IIRC), it means that the Impulse client itself is actually updating.

Please ask nicely for help next time.

Really? I signed up on their site and submitted a request for information about or direct links to old patches about an hour after I made that post, I have not received any sort of reply what so ever.

Also, where is that email listed on THIS website, sinsofasolarempire.com ?

I ask nicely when support is put out in the open and easy to access.  There is literally no offical form of tech support if you go to the official website for this game.

Just have a page titled "Support" and have an email address and a FAQ.  I applaud what you are doing, I really do.  But you should not be the first line of help, I should come here to ask after I send off that email to the tech support office.

The support email is the first line on the TECHNICAL SUPPORT page in the manual.

So...I just loaded a "newly" purchased copy of this game and find that 1.5 will not download..as stated in the earlier post...Where are the downloads...if the game is over a year old and still be sold on the shelfs New..shouldn't the updates be available?

thanks

If you purchased and downloaded through Impulse, the game comes updated to the latest version. If you bought a disc, and are trying to get the patches anywhere from 1.05 and before, do a Google search. Since Impulse updates files directly, there's no seperate downloads after that.

Might I inquire, good sir, as to why it is not on this website at all? THIS website, sinsofasolarempire.com.

Might I inquire as to where the old patch downloads?

I do admit, I completely missed that email being on that page, and that is my fault.

I would like to thank you for only pointing out my kurmudgeon, and not addressing any of the issues I brought up.  Really, thank you.

I'm not asking for you to come to my house with a flash drive that has all of the old patches, or to call me up and walk through it with me.  Just have the bloody email on the website.

At the very least have a little blurb in the FAQ that says "Sorry, we don't allow paying customers to download old patches."

I had to find a torrent with an older version of the game in order to get the version I was looking for.  I paid, in full, for this game at a retail store, and in order to play a mod I had to download it.

How, sir, am I supposed to justify paying for your next game when this is what I had to do in order to play this one?

Who knows?  Some websites might have kept a copy of it, but I don't think there is one around here.  No point to it since they have Impulse to keep you up to date -- you really are supposed to run the most recent version.  (Yes, that means some mods won't work... complain to the modmaker!)

If you want to be technical, due to the wya the program works, they don't have the old patches anymore.  One of the huge reasons Impulse is superior is because it allows the devs to simply update the server-side copy of the game, and then Impulse handles figuring out which files to download to get you updated.
