Finest Hour

Finest Hour

Any good?

Has anyone ever tested the Finest Hour ability on the Kol at all? What are your thoughts? I've never really had a chance to use it.

No waiting on the missile to get there

actually ive noticed that the damage is applied when the missile is FIRED not when it hits the target, this is also the same with abilities that use projectiles

Reeeeeally, cool. I'll renig that one. I've got no problems making a retraction. In that case Illums are just way more tough than their counterparts. Wow. Here all this time I thought instant hit was a factor. You've just told me that it's actually that the Illum is that much more powerful. Oy. I feel another headache comin on.

That is incorrect.  The damage type is backloaded.  That means that the damage is incurred at the end of the volley.  If it is stopped short, it is calculated at the end of the second as the percentage of the max volley that was fired.

If this was not the case, it would lead to LRM abuse as it would allow users to fire and deal damage to multiple close targets without even trying all that hard.  It would also make the Marza far more powerful than it actually is.

If I remember right, in vanilla, that was the way it operated...  Perhaps it was early beta, but whatever the case, it was like that at one time.  Its just that people reported abuse of it and it was changed...

(Oops, commenting on page 1 stuff....thread has moved on I see) Advent econ is not quite as bad as you make it sound. Generally you can get most of what you want with just 3-4 civic labs, which means you get just put the money into more tradeports rather than upgrading various technologies -- it is pretty streamlined, letting you focus more on the Advent military of Death in the early to mid phase of the game. Allegiance bonuses from tech and starbases are also very valuable for large empires. Nothing like taking a planet with 30% Allegiance and making it 40% (25% increase). Vasari econ is somewhat variable to the amount of neutrals. Vasari econ can be quite strong, but there is VERY heavy research and infrastructure investment involved to make it work. ps. Yeah, damage is backloaded. (How many times have you wondered if your cap was going to jump before all the little missiles hit?) pps. Why is this posting as a solid block of text with no formatting? damnit!

I know...  Its just that resource focus doesn't really pay off unless you get an ice/molten world with 4 roids, although getting that is a gigantic bonus...  4.5 crystal/sec is nice.  Alure of the Unity is quite helpful though.  And I know it can be done.  The TEC macro, the Vasari Micro, and the Advent attack.  Its that simple.  I hate macroing throughout the entire game, so I almost never play as TEC.  I primarily play as Vasari and sometimes Advent.  I know how to do it properly, I'm just saying that it is easier to set up an effective economy as the other races.  It is nice though that the Advent do have it set up the way they do.  It does give you the advantage of not worrying about it...

Oh, and I noticed something while playing a game earlier today as Advent that I would like to correct.  Against a couple unfair AI's, I got a level 10 Holy Trinity (lvl 10 on all three).  I also discovered that the researched laser damage of a Radiance is 100 even.  With the 22% redux in cooldown, it yielded a 23% increase in damage.  So, it really does depend on the duration of the attack and the cooldown of it...  The thing I got the 8% from was a Disciple I think, but I'm just saying that it can end up yielding a buff of anywhere from 8% to 23%.  Just thought I'd clarify that.
