Creative way to limit a ship to 1?

I want to lmit the building of a ship to 1 on the playing field at a time however i can't figure out a way to do it. I though of making a building that would spawn the ship costing anitmatter. The building would have a 0 anitmatter regen so the ship could be spawned only once however that won't prevent a player from bulding multiple ship spawning buildings.

 

Anyone have any creative ideas to do this?

The way we do it is by making a prespawned building have the ability, making said ability passive (and therefore one-shot) and linked to a research, that way the ship still has a cost associated with it and will spawn when only when you want it to spawn (ie when you finish the research)

The only 100% failsave way i can think of now is to set the fleet supply to 1001 *_*

But i think Terraziels idea is good.

It should work in theory, but you might have issues with antimatter rechargers and/or other ships with abilities that restore antimatter. Also keep in mind that you can always scrap the structure once it produced the unit, reducing the true cost, so you might want the ability to cost resources as well. Terraziel's method works though I'm not sure what happens once the spawned unit is destroyed.

Wouldnt it be easier to copy the way Cap ships are setup? Have the first one built be free and then the price for any additional ships of that type cost millions (or whatever) of resources.

That would work in shorter games shadow, but when u get into the larger maps against harder opponents, you might be able to save the resources to buy another.

Here is an idea

You start with the structure that builds the unit.

The ability to build the unit generates the unit in the same way the Sova makes its missile Turret.

and this ability self destructs the building.

 

so you can only produce ONE of that type of unit.

Or you could just mod the cap factory to build this presumably uber ship, instead of using cap ship crews however, it would use a separate pool of crews, that pool would be linked to a research that gave you one crew, and voila only one of that ship maximum, and if it dies you can still rebuild it.

yes, the specialized capitol ship supply is probably the only way to do this.  you might be able to make a separate, hidden group, but it'd be nearly identical to the cap ship supply.
