The Undying The Undying

Firefly Universe with Galaxy Forge 3

Anyone here played the Firefly online RP? (I haven't, I just googled the in-game map). If not, you may have watched either the Firefly TV series or the film Serenity. In any case, this is a GalaxyForge version of the universe it's set in.

Play as either the Alliance or the Coalition, and bring an end to both the reavers and each other.

This map is compatible with Entrenchment v. 1.03 and can be opened with Galaxy Forge 3. The map can be downloaded by clicking on the external link. Have fun, and please give feedback!

I wonder what I should work on next. Perhaps a map focused on a particular part of the conflict, and/or a solar system and it's surroundings?

Reaver Space... lots of pirates and space junk between 2 planets like Miranda and Haven???

Quoting Teal, reply 5  It would be possible of course to have a small mod created where just a tech frigate class light ship would be considered "Serenity" and to give them perhaps the pirate stealresources ability, and heavy hull points and moderate shields and to link them with an ally race so they dont have to have a homeworld.

I can see if i can put something together tonight and see how it works and upload it.

I too am a massive fan of FireFly, but did not consider actually doing a mod, but with the right abilities, and an ally race, then i think it becomes workable to have a lone race, with just the frigatelights.

I will let you know,

Long Live FireFly!!!!

Certain crewmembers of the Serenity are actually Browncoats, the remnants of the defeated Independant Systems. You could consider creating a resistance group of this name.

And yes, this map will work with Distant Stars.

Perhaps a 4th small race called BrownCoats as you mentioned, and have them just have small frigates, perhaps not even a full complement, well... i will have to think about that one... but if they have no CapitalShips then it could be interesting, i mean more credits for the smaller ships, but of course the heavy firepower of the Capitals would be missing too. But it might make for an interesting game.

Perhaps linking them with an Ally as well, so they may have just minor planet defenses and upgrades and the frigates, and if their planet gets over run, then having the Ally should keep them alive, if there are still ships, and if they have a colony frigate, or several of the frigates have that ability, then they could re-establish their HomeWorld.  :)

especially with Sins Plus!!  :)

Sounds very very cool!!

You have a wonderful idea here with FireFly and Serenity!!   :)

Thank you,

I'm going to start work on updating this map to the standards of Distant Stars v. 0.85. This mod will allow for much greater variation in planet types. I will be making the outer stars into companion stars, putting everything in one solar system, and will also be making certain planets into moons, huge planets or dwarf planets. Expect it quite soon.

Once this is finished, I'll get to work on the Burnham system minimap. I've already read the space junk suggestions for this map, feel free to exploit democracy and voice yourself.

I've had a change of map plan. Locations highlighted by yellow points will be featured in version 2.0.

As Always Very Very Nice. I was able to get a semi-working mod up and running, but im afraid i was out-gunned pretty quickly. I have been in the middle of classes, so havent devoted as much time as i would have liked, but will try to get back to it and see if i can add something that might be interesting, hopefully.  :)

As you say though, the Distant Stars, Sins Plus and I believe 7DS would play this very very nicely!!

The Undying, if I may ask, which program did you use to recalibrate everything? I am currently working on an Honorverse map with 50 plus individual star systems and have been running into problems. I need to try spreading every system out as far as proportionally possible as galaxy forge will allow.

Secondly, is there a way in SINS to make the map already 'pre-explored' but have the 'fog of war' present so you have no idea what's at each planet but you know what the planet's name is? The big problem I have with most pre-created maps is that I have no idea where I am or where I am going in relation to things because I don't know what they're called until I get there. :-P

If you're going to make a 50+ star system map, you'll need the attention span of a boulder with unmoving eyes and some serious hardware.

I use two programs, Galaxy Forge and 2D Design, to make maps of such complexity. I use 2D Design to pinpoint the locations of each planet, moon, and asteroid belt group and emulate their orbits, enabling me to relocate them at appropriate points in their orbit. Before I do all this, I carefully calibrate the scale and size relative to Galaxy Forge coordinates. Unfortunately 2D Design is not freeware. :'(

I had a quick look on Google to find a mod that specialised in this, but unfortunately I don't think such a thing exists. One trick you can use in Galaxy Forge is to place scouts in planets you want intel on when you start; just don't forget to allocate these scouts to faction ownership.

This is a screenshot of the map design in progress.

And here's a screenshot of my desktop. Why not? :)

The Undying, I have been thinking about how to re-approach my Honorverse map, which will have 50+ star systems. Before I get to the picture below, I was curious. If I stick with standard since colonizable planet types, no funky moons, all that stuff would you be willing to help me out with map construction?

Around each star (with a few exceptions) there will be anywhere from 0-3 colonizable planets, max # number of planets (astroid belts and debris included) around 7.

I only want your standard number of sins pirates on the colonizable planets in the system. Out of all of the 50+ systems, only maybe 5 are going to ahve pirate bases.

With this reduced number of pirate ships running around, as well as reduced number of planetary bodies per 'star system', along with my Multiple Stars Graphics Mod https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/348205 performance should be enhanced decently. Would the creation of a large map be possible? I'd like it far enough apart that going from one corner of the map to the other corner (diagonal) will takea bout 5-10 minutes of travel time. Thus, making the control of systems with a wormhole very important. :-)

Would you be willing to help me out? This is my 4th iteration on trying to get a map to work properly the way i'd like. (I would like to try and leave the scale at default values if possible.

I would like to point out a slight problem with the map. As the border worlds, you have alot of negative income, while the alliance has a good deal of positive income. I would at least bring the border worlds intot he positive area, its kindof hard to build the improvements nessesary to gain income if you don't have the money for it in the first place (a wonderful example of the effects of poverty BTW)

As it happens, the negative income of the outlying worlds magically reverses after a short time. Don't even ask, because I don't know.

I've returned to the project and will be producing a reformed map of the Firefly system.

Are there any Firefly mods?

The Undying,

Be aware that the issue of making huge multi-stare maps with planet icons not behaving correctly when zooming out has been solved according to Blair Fraser. It will make it into the next patch for Sins. :-)

I'm back from Cornwall! I never wanted to go... ;P

Thanks for the info Boshimi.

Er... please don't kill me for never finishing my projects.

So is it finished yet?  Muahahaha!  }:)

I've been really slacking off in the map department myself...

Nah. I've been slacking off too.

TU, keep in mind that the planet zoom issue is now fixed. I've also updated my Multiple Stars Graphics Mod for all current versions.

I'm also cranking away on my huge map. Look for a playable test version within a month or so. Until then it's all in alpha and then beta while I get everything squared away.

Nice job.  It would be awesome to actually have the Firefly/Serenity ship models to use there too ; )

Actually, that's where I would have wanted to see a continuation of the movie/series go--towards emerging civil war.  Good premise.

As a mod, the tough part is the lack of ships to include.  There are a lot of screens of ships but military ones are so varied in style and a complete fleet line up is really missing.  You'll have to look hard.  Intro to the Firefly series and the battle scene in Serenity probably have the most total number of vessels you'll find.

FYI, there was an authorized (by Josh) purchasable online pack long ago that had blueprints and info on the armed Firefly gunship  and it stated that it was widely used by the Independents during the war as a gunship, commerce raider and fleet asset--with variations for different missions roles being quite numerous.

I found the references too it and some of the text with a small picture years ago but never saw the poster/booklet itself.  I guess not many were sold at first and few were printed.

Ah...here we go.  It was from an authorized model making company.  Here's the pics:
