Story of a Noob

So last night I created a game called 2v2, it was my first time online and i was a bit nervous. one guy joined, and not wanting to wait, we both started playing.

it was a good start. both of us playing TEC. i got several asteroids and a desert planet colinized while my scouts found his home planet and other colinies.

then came the Pirates. Both of us started sinking money into them right before they launched, with me selling off metal to afford paying them. in the end i had 200 more bounty on my head. I was fine with that though, as i knew i could handle them from my desert planet(which i named dune).

at this point i was feeling a bit technologically superior, as i had Percheon and LRM's researched as well as some weopon and armor upgrades, and a level Five Kol, maybe 20 kobalts, and about ten LRM's. He had the advantage of numbers though, with a level 4 kol and a level 2 dunov.

during the pirate attack, he snuck around my flank straight to my home planet with his two caps and 22 cobalts. at the time i only had a few cobalts, 2 percheons defending my home planet. i frantically began building Gauss turrets and repair bays while my main fleet rushed back to defend. they arrived soon after into the melee, my gauss turrets firing randomly, and me trying to build some more frigates.

I immediatly ordered my Kol to Gauss his Kol, and then focused fired all my Kobalts, My Kol and My Gauss turrets on his Kol, while My LRM's fired at his Dunov(at this point a fair number of his cobalts had beed destroyed)

but then here comes my biggest mistake of the game. somehow, i must have accidently opened the ause screen. i stared at it in a moment of confusion...and then moved my mouse to quit. the battle resumed... and then it says he was victourious!

I mourn the loss of my first game to my own stupidity =(

and to the person i was playing against, i am sorry for the game you lost as well

Sounds like a big oops.  But hey, you popped your multiplayer cherry!  So, welcome to the Sins online multiplayer community.

Losing because you lost is one thing, losing because of something silly like that is another.  Eats you up inside.

Two things worth consideration:

If you know you can take on the pirates, it's often better just to fight them and not spend money on bounty.  Pirates give great experience to your capital ships, and aren't really that dangerous anyways.

Secondly, try moving towards long range frigates (LRM's for TEC) sooner.  The LRM will absolutely murder cobalts and are good against capital ships to boot.

As darvin said, Pirates are wonderful for your caps experience. Often during the first few waves of pirates ill station my cap ship in orbit around a planet I know theyll attack. My cap ship can take them on all alone given a repair platform or two, while the rest of my fleet does things that need doing. (like defending another planet or helping a different cap ship clear a gravwell of militia.)

A few turrets are great against pirates, they seem to be very effective,

Also.. this is another reason why game stats dont mean anything.

but woot~ i hope to see more new players joining the game so i dont get overpowered everytime

if your game was 2v2, that means u had an alli.  so why didnt u call on ur partners help to hit his home planet while ur defending yours, then he should retreat to his home while u chase him down with ur fleet and cripple him. duh;P

Thats what was on my mind when i finally lost the bounty war. I actually told him that i was getting more XP for my cap.

and I did have LRM's, they were focus firing on his cobalts and Dunov. They were so close to destroying his Dunov and it was a race to see which kol would be blown up first. either way, whoever won, likely both our fleets would have been crippled.

but its moments like those where im actually on the edge of my seat wondering just whos goona win and if my LRM's will take out his shields in time and who will win this kol vs kol firefight that make me feel glad i bought this game =)

One of TECs major strengths is their production rate. Try playing to that advantage and have frigate factories nearby ready to replace any frigates that are lost.
