Questions!! :D

Hi, I have a few hopefully not-so-annoying questions. I have no experience modding sins except for making a galaxy, and it was pretty simple, Im not even completely sure of the types of things you can change. I have modded before, just not for this game, so I know some of the terms.

Question 1: Is it possible to add a new research tree? for example, in the advent research there would be a new tree called "insert name here" that contained some of the vasari or tec research items.

I would really like to do this if I can, and soon (as a birthday surprise for someone) but I have no idea where to find a tutorial, I tried google...looking in these forums... just wondering if there is a tutorial or something on research trees...and if not, how can I learn to do this quickly?

Question 2: Is it possible to make it so that while playing tec, I could have a advent seeker? or a vasari frigate factory? just for looks...or go even more insane from lack of sleep and cross all the ship abilities over...

I have no idea how any of that would be done, Im not even 100% sure of what I would be using to make these mods.

Any help would be much apreciated.

1: It's not possible to add a new research tree, but you can add research via the player[racename].entity files. Which tree they are in, and the positioning, effect, cost, tier, etc. are all set by the RESEARCHSUBJECT entities.

2. Pretty much the same as research. Note that the factories can only have nine units per page, and can't have new pages.

 

As for tools, you need to convert the files out of binary into text. I suggest Dekhranic Mod Tool. After that, it's all Notepad or Notepad++ if you have it. The game will even load the text versions of the files just fine.

Loading Advent seeker's or Vasari frigate factories, or whatever else from the other races you would like to include for your Tec race, im  assuming its the Tec race, yes? Anyway, just open the playerTec.entity file in notepad and look at the ships.

Just copy over the lines from the appropriate PlayerAdvent or PlayerPhase.entity files (copy and paste) and dont forget to change the numbers at the top of each list,    and then save, close and start up Sins, when you enable the mod in the options area and start the game you should now have those items available.

This works for ships and items, and even research, though that gets a bit complicated, But try it out and you will learn pretty quick.

Thanks guys, I downloaded the program for converting linked above, is there a good tutorial for using this? I attempted to select the game info folder to convert it and a folder to convert into and either the convert button greys out or I get an error telling me "convertdata file does not exist".

Any ideas?
