Bad Stuttering Problems

I've been having some really bad stuttering problems when I play Entrenchment, the game starts out fine and then after about 20 seconds it starts to stutter for about half a second then return to normal play.

Then it just continues to keep getting worse, and if I let it keep going it will completely freeze, and leave me unable to alt+tab or cntrl+alt+delete, or even alt+f4 the program, I have to do a manual computer restart by unplugging it.

Update: This also occurs in regular Sins, it never happened before, until I installed Entrenchment.

Update 2: It appears to still happen, but lowering the number of computer AI slows down the stutterings progressment into fully freezing. But it still happens in the end.

Help please :(

Hi,

I suggest to make save games when this comes heavily into effect. Then stop the game, relaunch it and then reload the saved file. If it's still slow, contact the support.

The problem seems to hit quite some players, although most seem not to have it. The support people asked me for such save files and said that in the past they were never able to replicate this behaviour.

I noticed myself that after restarting the application and reloading the saved game, there's a chance that the slowdown is gone. Usually, though, the freshly loaded game does begin to slow again after a very brief amount of time, sometimes instantly.

What's really weird:

I reduced the graphics settings to minimum, thus reduced the RAM usage to 500-660MiB and I have 8GiB. So memory or graphics complexity is not the problem.

The game only uses one core for most of the work. Other cores always show up idle in task manager. While that one core typically was maxed out in such situations (even while the game was paused!) I had a very bad slowdown while that one core was only used in the range of 50-70% and all other cores still idle.

As you may guess, my machine keeps perfectly responsive and can run other apps on the other monitor without any problems. But Sins with 32 planets is slow, taking seconds to respond to a mouseclick. Even after all enemies are dead, it's still slow.

End of DeathsBrother's quote

If you're talking about a little graphics update, then the game stops (even for several seconds) then a little graphics update and another stop, then we're most probably talking about the same thing. However, those little graphics updates are very slow for me then, and before the game begins to behave like this, it's simply slowing down. I also can quit sins, although that does take ages...and my machine itself is not slowing down, as it even can run other programs on a second monitor fluently.

Saving, relaunching sins and then reloading the saved game sometimes helps, but most often only for a brief amount of time.

Even if your problem is different, I guess it would be wise to have saved games of such situations if you want to contact the support.

What happens forr me is it starts out fine, after about 10 seconds it starts to stutter a little, after about 20 its about play for a second, freeze for 5, play for a second, freeze for 8, play for a second, freeze for 10, etc. And around 30 seconds it will just freeze completely, and I have to pull the plug to shut down my computer.\

Oh, and the thing is that it never happened before I installed entrenchment.

Now when I uninstall entrenchment, it still does it. :(

Do you have an Anti-Virus program which scans files in the background? I had similar problems, with this and other programs, caused by AVG Resident Sheild. It is now permanently turned off.
