Brother In Arms - Training School

Recently I think many people have started to notice a change in me, for example I get frustrated quite easily now due to people coming from single player into multiplayer without the basic knowledge of countering another guys fleet, for example spamming cobalt’s against illums or Lrms. As of recently, the player base has started to grow slowly, and this will mean that more players who are  ‘inexperienced to online’ will start to play games and not know the basic counters.I beleive now training players before they play 5v5 pug games is better then shouting at them or kicking them.

By opening a training school, I hope to increase the noobs awareness to the game, and helping them to know all the basic counters, and what and what not to do in situations and most importantly teaching them how to micro.

This is how you will be taught, game will be played on a 5v5 map, it will be 4v4, with two spectators, one for each team telling them what they are doing right and wrong, and giving them advice on how to combat the other teams fleet. I believe after five training sessions, I believe I would be able to increase your knowledge of the game by about 20 games worth. And I will also give you tips on what I learnt, and also, how to expand fast, really fast.

This will be good for the short term prospects of the game, and overall increase the long term likeness of more clans and skilled player being available for pugs and team games.

If anyone is interest, leave a message below, and add me as [_]-Blackhawk  or Commander SunnyVS

Also known as ~|- The Watchmen or SoS The Watchmen or [DT]SidShit (Joking, don’t add these lol)

I may need another spectator, so any helpful skilled or clan guys out there, give me a buzz.

Training will take place on every Sunday at 8.00pm English Time. I don’t know what time that is in American, sorry.

I think this is a good idea.  It's too bad that this game doesn't have a bona-fide spectator mode.

I say u overdoosed estrogen, it can be fixed easly :P

And for the idea i thing hard way is best way.

New people MUST LISTEN to expirienced. And what is most important do not think they know everything after 100 or 200 games.Cause u learn all the time,

If u r new, just say it  AFTER THE GAME STARTS, not before, u might get kicked

Ask for advice.

There is no point making special harmless enviroment. They need to get scout rushed, lum spammed carrier bombed or get SB sneaket into their HW.

Then when they will know  this and have your tips and advices, they will learn.

In 5v5 with noobs only they wont learn nothing, cause they wont have to to survive

Last most important advice.

WATCH THE REPLAY OF EVER EVERY YOUR GAME, IN SLOW MOTION, WATCH THE ENYMY THAT OWNED U, COPY HIS MOVES, TACTICS, MICRO.  Over and over,  there is no short cut

I think this is a great idea. I have a decent knowledge of counters (or so I believe), but my micro skills are extremely poor and I've only played two games against humans. Besides, anyone can benefit from direct critique like this.

Consider me in.

EDIT to address Qu4r: Who says the environment will be harmless? The "tutors" could suggest tactics to the participants or demonstrate those tactics. Also, has it occurred to you that people do not find being owned particularly appealing? I sure as hell don't. Balanced games are much more fun.

This could be a great thing.

EDIT2: Will we be playing with Raging Amish's Balance mod? That will prevent some of the more imbalanced units from dominating.

We jsut Had our first trianing session, a 2v2 with me observing and it went very well for all players. It was a nice and clam atmosphere where we all discussed new ways of improving our gameplay, for example how to set up culture and how to maxmise ur econ before going to battle. Increasing Logistics etc. We also talked about the distance went to rush or to build econ up then attack. Overall good first trianing session.

Any people who went to join, tell me, and i will sign u up for next week, hopefully it should be a 5v5 or 4v4 with 2 skilled on either side. :)

Remeber: This is taining is in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Work Hard, Player Harder.

This is the new forum post, becuase some people cant get into this one:

I would be interested for next week, I'd call myself fairly knowledgeable about most counters but figuring out what to do in situation-specific things (how to rush best, etc).

the BIA noobsters need to start this back up, because if they can't win, they might as well train others ! :)

This is a great idea and I'd love to sign up for the class. Could you post the replays too afterwords to study from?

I am a noob, but not an RTS noob, and would very much enjoy having my style critiqued. I just kind of carried over some basic tactics from other games that work ok against computers, but I am not sure how they would hold up against a human. So sign me up! :)

What is the name of the room?

Has anyone actually received any training from the Brothers?

All I can say guys is that the best thing you can do is to make sure you feel comfortable with all of the basic mechanics of the game--things like how to take neutral extractors, a knowledge of the tech tree for whatever race you play, how to select ships or groups of ships in battle, etc., and then getcher buns online.  You can also watch the posted replays (at least if you have Entrenchment) and read the Strategy forum.

Look for games with newer players in them, especially games that have non-Fast speed settings since the hosts and the people those games would attract are more likely to be new.  You'll also find more new people on the weekend and perhaps in Regular Sins (since most of the pros are playing Entrenchment).  Try not to take getting thumped your first forty or fifty games seriously but treat them as learning experiences and watch the replays, paying attention to what the really good players do.
