Pay to the order of...

before and after

Pay to the order,
of before and after,
I took care while you were away,
so near was,
and am,
I to realizing the significance,
of moments such as these,
and those,
that seem to have never occurred.

Moments that are wished to have happened,
once woken abruptly,
lucid,
and gasping
to reorient yourself with the life you woke,
you wake,
up in.

Difficult to remember if I can,
or could,
remember a single thing about yesterdays,
who knows,
or knew,
the statement balance?

Who I owe,
will matter little,
as long as whoever finds themselves in my debt writes a,
wrote a,
blank check.

Pay to the order of before and after.

Honestly, I didn't give this one much thought until I read it a second time.

I love it.

How ever did you come up with the concept for the layout of this poem? At first, I was simply confused. Then I put two and two together, the title and the layout, and it is pure genius. I absolutely love it! Clever as all can be. Damn....keep it coming man, keep it coming. -Rat

Gracious Readers, thank you for the support. Sometimes it all comes together as Dylan has said, by chance. Perhaps we're all victims and perpetrators of chance...apparently it was on my side with this one. I love playing with present/past tense contrasts, and I suppose this one might read like a song, or perhaps that's what I had, what I have, intended all along.
