Mod freezes when Changes Applied

I was tooling around with the tutorial on modding for entrenchment, and I did exactly the easy one about weak vasari.  The mod shows up in the game but as soon as I pressed apply changes the game locks up and I have to reboot. To be fair I also tried changing a couple of tech battleship numbers a bit, just to see if i could make that gauss gun a bit stronger, but i don't think thats my problem.  I have been reading the forums for 2 days now and  I saw another post with the exact same problem in the (fixed) entrenchment mod thread, but of course it was the last post 3 months ago with no answer.  So if someone could help me I'd appreciate it. Never posted on a forum before, so I apologize for all the things I did wrong that I see many other new people get yelled at for in advance.

Cheers

First off, let me welcome you too the forums!

Secondly, what your experiencing is actully PROBABLY normal.

This happens RIGHT when you enable the mod?

IF so, that it is probably just the computer going through the mod, checking the mod and enabling it.  I sugest you just let the computer sit for a few minutes.

Is the version of the mod files correct? (I mean, do you use 1.03 ref data as a base with the 1.03 Entrenchment?)

If you run the developer exe, it should tell you what the exact problems are.

But no, Sins does not make lockups when enabling "broken" mods, or anyway else. If there's a problem, you get a minidump.

Also, large mods (like Soa, DS, etc) can take a while to load, you can't press any buttons until then. Although even Distant Stars (720mb) shouldn't take more than a couple of seconds. Try to run in windowed mode to see if the PC still responds.

your assuming he is using a fast machine as well. the slower/older the comp the longer it will take to load large mods, generaly speaking. i know it can take around 30 seconds to a min to load some of the large mods i use.

This is just a thought, but especially with Entrenchment, there is the need to update or change any entity files added to the gameInfo folder. say i take a scout and make a scout2. In scout2 i change some of the settings. Weapons or hull or shields.

If i simply save and exit and start Sins and load the mod, the mod will cause the game to mini-dump. Many times i dont know this until i get out and see the error on the screen.

But the reason is i didnt update the entity.manifest file for the file i added.

But if i go into the manifest (open with notepad) and go down to frigatescout and copy, press enter for a new line

click paste and change the now second line which has scout to scout2 then go to the top, change the number of entities to 1 more than what it currently is, then i save and exit, start Sins and load the mod. Usually, if i haven't missed something else, im now ok and the mod will play.

Just a thought, this might not be the case at all if you havent' added files. :)

Try to alt+tab out and go back in. See if it displays an error.

Generally, if it freezes completely and waiting any length of time does not work, there's an error loading the mod.

I tried that but it didn't work. I think my be a problem with the referance data in forge tools 3. If that data is for 1.03 but rather a prevision than can any point in the direction of where I can get the data for 1.03

Use this to convert the files from the GameInfo in the install directory. Note that Entrenchment has a different GameInfo folder found in the GameInfo folder.
