How to Lose

Sometimes when I play in a single player game, the AI just appears to lose. Before you laugh TOO hard, let me say that they still have planets and they still have fleets. I don't know why this is, and I was hoping someone could tell me.

I thought the only way to lose the game was to lose your last planet. Am I wrong? 

 

Forgive me, I'm a newb to the forums.

the AI just gives up.  especially on lower skill levels.

The AI does surrender if it determines that you have an insurmountable advantage that it can't overcome.

There really isn't a set formula for when the AI will surrender.  I find it is usually when their combined used fleet size is only 1/3 of mine, and they only have 3 or fewer planets.  But that is on a single star map, multi star maps are different...

  i could be mistaken here, but in my solo games i have noticed that if i take out their home planet, even when they have other planets or fleets available, that the game will give me a game over and a defeat on the enemy side.

That's not always the case, though it does sometimes happen.

I did however have cases where the AI colonized planets, but couldn't afford the Population Infrastructure upgrades so those planets were constantly losing it credits. All I needed to do then was take out the planets producing credits and any trade ports and the AI surrendered soon after.

Also, i think there is an internal clock saying if they don't get attacked in some form of other players (exluding pirates) they just give up.

i guess in that case they just give up considering the greater advantage you have of them at that time.
