The most success i had importing models into XSI was converting them to direct X format first. Then going over the mesh using "MVIEW" it is a direct x model viewer that can validate and repair direct x format mesh's

XSI seems to have the least amount of trouble importing direct x mesh's least from my experience.

Try 3D Object Converter... http://web.t-online.hu/karpo/ ... take a look at the format list ( seek for "sins of solar empire" )... you will find a entry for the binary and text .mesh file... have use it for convert a lot of sins ship in .obj ... geometry and UV are converted in a reliable way... but hardpoint are not converted...

Do I want to convert the .OBJ to an "ASCII" .MESH or a "binary" .MESH?

From .mesh to other format, use 3D Object converter

From XSI to .mesh format, use the Stardock converter

Both software work only in one direction for the convertion...

Reliable to me means it will convert the mesh with all Faces, mesh points (hardpoints), smooth groups, and UV's intact. Also something that wont quit on me in 30 days. So far not ONE converter/importer passed my test.

Well, I have .obj format now.  Is there a free program that can convert that format to .mesh?  Or is that XSI?  :|

Is there a tutorial I can read that fully explains that whole process?
