well, it's not like you expect a date to really bring change. The Jewish New Year is around September and you don't see anything suddenly change then. Of course, then you have the Chinese in February and the Indians in October, IIRC, so if something did change, we would be in the middle of a roller coaster.

The New Year also used to happen in Europe on April 1st. Then someone changed it and gave us a new holiday.

Actually, the New Year for many European localities was March 25th, but they took a whole week off, so it ended the 1st of April. Despite the Julian Calendar setting the New Year on January 1st, many just aligned their equinoxes and kept their own New Year dates. The Egyptians celebrated the New Year in August for quite some time.

In the end, blame the Romans. I know I do.
