one of my teachers was kind of a bitch, but I can see your point. She decided to give Americans shit for liberating France in WWII (under the argument that we caused too much damage fighting the Germans) so I had to tell her ass off.

Well let's be honest, France was definitely the hardest hit when it comes to civilians killed vs strategic gain. I mean, we only pushed the Reich back through its borders. Barely worth it when you think about it, we could have just let old Joe keep rolling West and do it for us. The Russians treated liberated nations very well, I hear. We Western Allies have always been complete bastards of course. We didn't even have the decency to put up rehabilitation camps like the Germans!

Let me clarify what she said. She complained about a window in a church being blown out during a bombing and then proceeded to say that we Americans were too liberal (apparently the Brits and Canadians were not present) with our artillery and bombs and pointed out that the Germans hadn't caused so much damage when they came through. My response was something along the lines of, yeah, the Germans don't have to do any damage when you decide to put a bow tie on the country and hand it over and when we liberated the country, which was optional, we sure as hell didn't have to give it back, hell, the Soviets sure did take their effort's worth. In the end, I had several other French people on my side and told her she can go look at the headstones in Brittany, Normandy, and the like and she can kiss my ass.

Pretty much my thoughts on the whole thing too.
