Fleet management

I been playing sins of a soalr empire for a few weeks now with the entrenchment addon. There is one thing that bothers me. When playing a huge map it becomes hard to manage 5+ fleets with over 20 units per fleet. Id like to see an expansion pack that lets you manage a fleet's size, auto replace lost unit in fleet, ability to name a fleet, and a chain of command would be nice.

When I say chain of command I mean making squads in a fleet. Such as having a squad of carriers and flak ships grouped and being able to assign the flak ships to defend the carriers from bombers. The fleet tree should have an eveonline.com fleet management feel

EI: fleet(name)

Commanding squad

Squad 0-99 Each squad should have a 0-10 support squads. allowing you to attach repair ship, support ships, ect

This would also open upa whole new tech tree. Such as having to research it to create bigger fleets, more squad and size of squads.  Also the ability to design your own formations would be nice to. Such as commanding squad in center, attacking squad out in the front, carriers placed at rear or center of formation, ect. Think about it. This would allow you set up your point of operation in a system at the edge and allow you to have a point of repair/safe zone for your weak ships that don't need to be at the front line (carriers, repair ships) there could be an option to have the front line units to retreat to repair ships at x% amount of armor left.

actually if you select say 10 (just an example you can select more and do the same thing) and then click on a particular Capital or another ship in the Fleet, those ships will follow and "guard" that ship.

Found this out when I had sent my fleet to a particular GW and realized ten minutes later they were half way across the map just jumping GW to GW without me telling them to. Come to find out I had actually selected a Tradeship that was jumping out of the original GW that I had ordered my Fleet too.

researching to make... EWWWWWW BAD MMO ELEMENTS BAD!!!!111

those are the WORST PART OF ANY GAME IN THE UNVISERSE AND SHOULD DIEE!!!!!!

anyway... you know how to assign hot keys for 1-9?

and there is a fleet management screen... and you can attach rally points to your fleets. and they will auto-join and such... cant auto-que dead units... sorry... but play around with that screen a bit... and try " I wonder what happens if..." I think you will find quite a few of the things you are talking about.

I am not sure why you even have +5 fleets... unless your playing agaisnt multiple ai and your mostly defending around starbases or something... w/e (go play multiplayer)

auto replace lost unit in fleet

That would be a really nice feature!

It would have to be toggle-able, or else you are going to end up with a lot of useless scouts being made (if youa re scout rushing, or for some unforseeable reason just have a fleet of scouts). But yeah, it would be nice if it did that instead of going back an checking "ok what died?"

Well, the auto-join is buggy: If you have two fleets operating at one system and have one fleet designated to be the target of a world producing further ships, they do not necessarily join that fleet but very often (since players tend to build up the weaker fleet) the wrong one.

The remaining issues of the initial idea for this thread could most probably best be solved by improvements to ships AI behaviour in order to better support their fleet...and then the computer enemies would also profit from that, so that's probably the best idea.

The management option which I really miss in this game is one for the big guns (deliverance engine and such): It's not possible to place them on 0-9 as those keys are not enough for 20+ of those thingies. On Autocast they do very bad things:

1) Often fire all at the same planet

2) The TEC gun does destroy own colonies on autocast

Both, too, could be handled by upgrading the way these things act:

1) Count how many shots are heading for a planet. If it's already three, do prefer a different target

2) Disable TEC warheads when they enter the gravity well and the planet is already colonized by the player

However, for the player it would really be great to have an icon/key which simply contains the option to designate a target for a shot of one of those guns...the game would have to select the closest gun which is ready to fire and if there are more such guns, the player can continue to use that button...

CTRL + Number, technically you can have 10 fleets if you the 1 to 0 and to call a fleet, press the number key you named it.
