Sins of a Solar Empire - Diplomacy Beta Information

Welcome to Beta 1 for Sins of a Solar Empire - Diplomacy!  This latest micro-expansion is far from feature complete, so I urge players not to jump to conclusions. As I like to say, we're at the beginning of the process, not the end. ;)

What you'll be getting for Beta 1 is just the groundwork for many things to come and as such is not fun.  Think of this initial release more like a technical test, as what will be most valuable to hear about are things like crash bugs, desyncs in multiplayer games, and other weirdness.

If you don't want to deal with bugs, balance issues or providing feedback to improve the game please wait for the final release.

Things in Beta 1:

  • Envoy Cruisers:  These cruisers are expensive to maintain, but will allow you to establish embassies on foreign homeworlds.
  • Embassies:  Once established, you can begin working in earnest with other factions.
  • Diplomacy Tech Tree:  This is where you'll find the required techs to meet and greet with others. Be aware that the new tech tree is far from complete; only the basics are in now (and even those will be changing).
  • Mission Generator:  At last you'll be able to issue missions to the AI and other players!  Setup the mission type, time limit and reward for completion.
  • Deadlier Pirates:  The Pirates will now become tougher as they collect bounty rewards, but that's just the beginning....
  • "Faster" Gameplay:  New "Faster" settings have been added to the Game Options that really speed things along.

To install Diplomacy:

  1. First, you will need the full versions of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.181 and Entrenchment v1.041.  These updates can be obtained via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).
  2. Once your pre-order is charged, you will see Diplomacy appear in Impulse under your My Games tab. Just click the Install button and Impulse will handle the rest.
    1. If you don't see Diplomacy appear after getting your order receipt via email from us, try Checking for Updates in Impulse (click the blue button in the upper-left and select Check for Updates).
    2. If that doesn't work, you can manually register your Diplomacy serial number in Impulse. Click the blue ? in the upper right and select Look Up Serial Number. Your Serial Number will be emailed to you.  Once you get your Serial Number, just click the Register Product button in the upper-right of Impulse and fill in the dialog.
    3. NOTE: Your order number is NOT your serial number.

Useful (hopefully) Information:

  • Due to the volume of pre-orders, it may take a few hours to process them all. You will not gain access to Diplomacy until your pre-order is successfully charged, so please be patient. ;)
  • On Tuesday morning if you still don't have access to the beta, please email [email protected] with your Order Number. They'll be able to assist you further.
  • If you get mesh errors or other errors after first installing Diplomacy, please try the following -
    • Delete your Sins of a Solar Empire user data:
      • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting
      • Win7/Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting
    • If this doesn't work, try uninstalling Diplomacy, Entrenchment and Sins and reinstalling via Impulse fresh.
  • If you encounter other technical issues, please post about them in this forum.

It's alive! ALIVE!

Question:  how much faster are the "faster" settings?

It depends on which aspect of the game you're referring to.

So its not an overall increase in speed rate but individual only?

ie, ship build time, ship travel, culture spread rate etc......

You won't have paid more.  =)

You might be behind me now though.  =(

Now that they're charging, you can use paypal for beta access since it'll be processed immediately.

Ya but I still see Pre-order on the order page

Double post

We'll be opening up to new orders once all the existing pre-orders are charged. ;)

Question on the "faster" speeds: why is damage done not an option to increase in speed? Ships may move faster, but as far as I know, they still kill ships as fast as before, on normal speeds.

Just an observation.

Some things can be sped up any more than they are or the CPU may become overloaded. This wouldn't be immediately apparent to anyone with a Core i7 or other fast processor, but those with single-core rigs would notice it for sure. It's a careful balancing act.

True.

Core i7 Overclocked at 4Ghz with Hyperthreading enabled here. Would be nice to have it as an option. More AI CPU usage as well?  :inlove:

Not for now, sorry. :P

So, it is a Alpha, not a Beta !!! Normally, a beta begins when the developers announce a feature freeze on the product!

personally I dont mind what is the state, the fact that the devs are willing to use their customers (who volunteer for it) to help improve the final game release is a plus in my book.

They froze the features ages ago, hence the suggestions are pointless threads. It's more about "what they have decided to let us test". As far as the technology goes, I bet they have them all layed out already and are just going to add and take away to see what works, whats balanced and what doesn't.

So yeh, is a beta. Just a limited one.
