Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity Announced

Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment are pleased to announce Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity today. Trinity is a compilation bundle which includes the award-winning Sins of a Solar Empire along with the Entrenchment and Diplomacy micro-expansions. As a special incentive, those who pre-order Trinity will gain access to the current Diplomacy beta via Impulse.

Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity takes players through 25 years of warfare beginning with the real-time strategy game that started it all. In Sins of a Solar Empire, the independent Trader Worlds are forced to unite in order to defend themselves from the alien Vasari menace and the return of their exiled brethren, the Advent. The Entrenchment expansion jumps forward 15 years to a time of stalemate between the factions when they fortify the territories they control with powerful starbases, mine fields and advanced defenses. Diplomacy takes the player to the current day, when the constaint toil of war has taken its heavy toll. Some speak of peace, while others see such initiatives as openings to destroy their enemies through subtler means.

Sins of a Solar Empire - Trinity is scheduled for release on February 9, 2010 and can be pre-ordered digitally for $39.99 USD. The game will also be available at retail stores throughout North America on release. To order Trinity, just visit the Store.

I grabbed a pirate copy of the original off a friend and lost it.

This release has spurred me to finally buy the game (which I meant to do after getting the pirate copy, but after loosing that when my system crashed I forgot about it). Time to get myself re-aquainted and dive into the multiplayer I think.

Man I really want to buy this but I just can't justify it at $40. I'm not a big RTS gamer (read: I'm utterly terrible) and while I did enjoy the demo, I don't feel confident enough to buy an RTS at such a price.

I'm sure that it has $40 worth of cntent at least, but I have to sit this one out until a price drop/sale comes.

You can preorder the Gold edition on Gogamer for $28. Free shipping too.

Best price I found for retail box set.

There is no such product as Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity "Gold".  Not sure what they're selling, exactly.

Are you saying that this is a bogus product?  Maybe you guys need to look into this:

Trinity Gold at GoGamer.com

Note that the box art appears to be different than the normal Trinity box art.  It does have Stardock and Ironclad trademarks on it.  If you guys never approved of or licensed this...  Note that the box does not say "Gold" on it; that's just what GoGamer is calling it.

Oh, we saw it.  The fun part is that on Monday, it said the release date was March 2nd.  Today, it says March 4th.  Just sayin'...

Hahah well I'm pretty confident that Gogamer will not rip me off. I think EBgames list it as 03/07 to ship.

It's 03/06 on Gogamer now.

what about a 2 pack for those who already have vanilla sins without any expansions yet?

hmmm, with Trinity, I would guess this is the end of Sins I. No more third expansion?

They cancelled the third micro-expansion, yeah.  They didn't rule out that there may be a full expansion in the future.  I guess they want to add things (probably a fourth race, more cap ships, etc.) that a $10 expansion won't cover.

"SOASE: Trinity" sounds so much cooler than "SOASE: Quaternary" anyway.

Is Trinity the end of Sins?  Hopefully.  Now maybe Sins2 with a campaign will be produced.  After seeing the limits of Galaxy Forge, I really want a Campaign Editor.

I hate DLC and "micro expansions" and whatever other fancy names the various game companies want to call vaporware. I would have bought these if they were in a store with a CD/DVD (and all related patches up to date on that CD/DVD) that I didn't have to download and can re-install without having an internet connection.

My main problem is if/when I re-install the game years from now... will the company still host the patches and the expansion downloads? Will they still be around? The answer will eventually be "No" to both. So it is basically just burning money.

On top of that I absolutely REFUSE to get a credit card due to predatory practices by those companies and the threat of identity theft.

Ironclad/Stardock are good companies IMO and I would love to support them, so I ask:

Pretty please with a cherry on top just release the two "micro expansions" as one bundled in store expansion for roughly $20. Add the cost of making DVD's and shipping you say? OK... $24.99 is a price I would still pay for that but NOT any higher and certainly not paying for a game I already own.

Keep up the good work guys and gals at IC/SD!

(and thanks for the lack of intrusive DRM which shows you care about your consumers. You guys rock.)

The first half came off very rant-y when I didn't mean it to be but I can't seem to find an edit button.

*shrug*  It happens.

You do have options, though.  You can archive a current installation through Impulse, though you can only reinstall to the same OS that it was originally installed to.  If the game is not installed yet, you can use the "Download and Archive" feature, which can be used on any OS.  Then, of course, there is Impulse Anywhere.  All you'll need to do is save the files you downloaded (and for the first 2, an Impulse installer, http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe) to where ever you keep your backups, or burn them to a disc.  That's all you'll need to reinstall your game if Stardock HQ gets sucked into some alternate dimension that isn't reachable by means of the Internet.

Honestly I'm more worried about my means to pay for internet connection in the shorter-term.

Cool about the backup, I should try it out for keeping my game at the current patch... and maybe call and try to persuade one of my parents to letting me give them money and using their credit card to get the expansions hehe.

Thanks for the official reply! I love the kitty avatar btw.

John James:

My guess is that the entire game will fit on one DVD. Also, I'm guessing that all 3 parts will be installed during the installation process but that once you're into the game you could play at any expansion level. Meaning you could just play the vanilla Sins if you wanted, or play with Entrenchment, or play with Diplomacy as well. Of course each subsequent expansion includes the previous gameplay.

Does this mean that if I start a game with Diplomacy it will also have everything from Entrenchment and the original?

yes, in fact you need to have Entrenchment in order to play Diplomacy

Hi - just got Trinity.  So, for the best experience of this game, am I right in thinking I'd be best off clicking ' Play Diplomacy ' as that will let me play the original game with all the extras of Diplomacy and Entrenchment as well?  If I just clicked ' Play Sins ' and then ' Play Entrenchment ' and then ' Play Diplomacy ', I'd basically play the same game 3 times but getting more enhancements each time - am I right?  Thanks

If you're new to the game, there may be an advantage to going Sins, then Entrenchment, then Diplomacy.  There's a lot of content, and starting off with Diplomacy may be a lot to dive into.  Certainly not impossible, but I tried it, and had a much easier time starting off with just the base game.

Hey. I'm new to the Sins of a Solar Empire community. In fact, this is my first post.

I recently purchased Trinity and expect to receive it soon. I've been absolutely glued to what is the most limited demo of a game I have ever played. Nevertheless, I can't wait to get my hands on the full version and then some.

Despite the whole, "If you're new to the game, there may be an advantage to going Sins, then Entrenchment, then Diplomacy," I'm afraid my bloody temptations to play all that Sins has to offer will drive me into jumping right into Diplomancy (assuming Entrenchment will automatically be included) instantly. Oh well. It's as they say, experiencing something hands-on is the best way to gain hands-on experience.

Can't wait to put that $39 to good use.

Go for it and I hope you enjoy the game as much as we do (by the way Diplomacy is built on Entrenchment so yes Entrenchment is automatically included).

If you need any help with anything (mods, modding, gameplay, etc) feel free to post up.

Thank you, Ryat. I just wish I didn't choose such a long username. For a perfectionist like me, those few bleeding letters are an eyesore. Do you know of a way I could shorten it? Other than that, I'll surely enjoy this community.

Thanks again.

With a name like "Tactical Synergy" you are almost obligated to play Advent.

I bought Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity just the other day, and I installed it and played it, and the next day it worked fine until yesterday, where it started popping up on screen with only one option, and that was to uninstall. WHY is it doing this?

Someone please help, i love this game and I want to play it but if this keeps up I'm taking it back to Best Buy
