EVE-O Mod - Pulling Something Together

EVE-O Mod - Pulling Something Together

First off, Hi Sins forums. Have been lurking here for a few months now. Up until fairly recently, I played EVE Online almost exclusively.

Then I found Sins.

Anyway, following a few months of playing, it occurred to me the tactical element of EVE combat and Empire politics fitted perfectly with the Iron engine (at least from what I’ve seen in sins and on the modding forums here)

Excited, I searched for EVE-O Sins mods, however, all I could find were suggestions for doing so, or ancient threads that looked like they’d gone nowhere, nothing substantial. (Please correct me if there’s anything major I’ve missed)

I’ve headed up several modding projects before (although never in sins) and have a hell of a lot of ideas, concepts and stuff going around in my head.

Whilst I can’t pull anything together until at least the end of February, I’d be interested in setting up the peripherals for an EVE mod and getting some good health discussion going in the mean time. I was thinking of a TC, major changes to game mechanics, gameplay, aesthetics, etc, etc. Couple o’ thing I had in mind:

  • Subsystems: In order to represent the myriad ways you can fit EVE ships, all ships would have the ability to build 'subsystems’ for a small amount of resource. For example, you could build an Incursus-Class Gallente frigate, (In EVE the conventional fit is close-range, high damage and fast) for an atypical ‘Railgun’ fit, which would be long-range, lower damage. I was thinking three sets of subsystems to represent medium, high and low slots for almost all ships

  • Ewar: Balancing Electronic Warfare from EVE for an RTS is difficult. Stuff like Sensor Damps (Range Reduction) Tracking disruptors (Turret specific accuracy reduction) and Target Painters (Damage taken increase) are all relatively easy to do. However, stuff like ECM, which is chance-based lockbreaking, could be potentially gamebreaking if done incorrectly. However, I’d very much like to pull it off.

  • Supply Trains: What’s always bothered me about sins, is that you can cut off a resource gathering operation from someone’s main empire, and yet it still brings in resources, despite the fact that you’ve got a large fleet of whatever between the resource op and the homeworlds. I’d love an excuse to use the Industrial ship models, and it’s be great to see players making an effort to secure gravity wells previously considered ‘not worth it’ in order to ensure resources got back home, as it were.

Whilst these three points are not everything I have in mind (would probably exceed a forum character limit if I went over everything) I’d love to see everyone else’s inputs on this. Importing models from Tri-Exporter and getting CCP’s permission to use models isn’t that hard if we have a conceivable plan to start with.

Apologies for being the upstart sins nubbin here and suggesting this if it’s out of line/place. I’m a huge Sins/EVE fan, and would love to head up something like this.

If anyone’s interested in really getting involved, shout here, or PM me, I’d love to hear from you all about this.

@ kurfi no sir I have not gotten anyone to respond about particles but at the same time I wanted to base the mod off the optimization mod to start off. So I dont know how that factors in.

Response made!

Do I get ISK now?

On the serious side:

There are no legal issues with exporting the models from EVE Online, are there? For some reason I think that was the cause for the downfall of the Homeworld 2 Eve mod, but I could be wrong.

It didn't look like they were having any issues from CCP because they were wanting to remake the models of the ships by themselves anyway, that's the only issue i can see them having with the EULA (using the .gr2 files from the .stuff's for their own public release that is)....RL issues are all that stopped the hw2 mod :-/

Welp folks, I have sent all people that seemed to be trying to work on this a PM that I could see it been a month now and havent really heard back from anyone. I can put alot of time into this mod, but there is things i cant do, like modeling, im terrible, trust me i tried.

I really would like to see this thru, but I need the help of those who seem to have been off to a great start! Here is to hoping they come back around soon!

that other mod isnt rlly good it has quite a few things in it that's jacked up like for instance the ships are way to weak and the sheild wrap is way off and needs to be fixed but if both this mod and the Sins of New Eden were to pool together it would go way better and faster but thats only if Ruppetus and the creator of SoNE want to pool their two mods together

Oh and Ruppetus for the carrier's and super carriers are you going to have carriers fighter drones only and the super carriers bombers only (25 bombers can fit in an SC easily) and are you going to plan on adding a tanking choice also cause that would make the game better to base tanking capabilities like EVE-O

Delicious Link Is Delicious.

There's actual playable releases. Better than quite a few EVE mods.
