Alright, alright, let me clarify a few things.
Ok, so your Trade Order map makes no sense to me. You have the Advent and Vasari attacking on the same front. Based of the map SINS is set in the Dueteri Backwaters? And both Advent and Vasari only show up 20 years after their 'intial' invasaion?!
I'm not sure why having the Advent and Vasari attack on the same frontline would be an issue.
I placed the Sins universe in the Dueteri Backwaters because it's filled with disjointed empires that are only loosely affiliated with the TEC. We never see a coordinated relief force from the main TEC appear in our games.
Its only been 25 years since the Vasari showed up on the door of the Trader Space. That is lore taken straight from IC. The Advent showed up 10 years after the first Vasari encounters.
You're not wrong. I'll make corrections at some point.
Now why in your map is SINS this tiny section way off the side? IMHO Sins should be set right in the section you call the Outer Core. With Advent and Vasari respectively holding a large chunk of the sections around the Outer Core.
The scale I've used is huge. The SoaSE universe, as a circle, is about 1500 ly in diameter. In any case, that circle was drawn semi-roughly. That's a LOT of stars.
I would disagree with placing the placing the playable Sins universe at the forefront of conflict. If that were the case, there would be no incentive for factions to act independently. The randomly generated empires we are familiar with would not exist; they would have broken down into cooperative planet-states.
Anyhow I dont think you can limit Sins to just one section on your map. With the ability to jump from star to star, no system is safe and there really is no front lines. Sure there are section/systems clustered together that make pockets of the respective races/factions. But on the larger picture, which it seems your trying to create the systems would be a patchwork of the 3 races.
I consider the Trade Order to be HUGE. There would be many scattered fronts isolated from the main front by 1000s of light years of unaffiliated territory.
I understand that games of SoaSE allow us to jump to pretty much any star system. But due to the scale of things on the front lines, deep striking would leave fleets cut off from fast supply and unable to assault the stable inner planets. Generally, a military cannot advance past it's supply lines.
Besides if I inject -Ue_ backstory into your map. It would put our original holding within the Trader Space somewhere in the Vinorig Colonies. No where near what you have set as the original SINS systems.
Sorry, that's Vindrig Colonies, the font was meant for theme more than crystal clarity.
I suppose it wouldn't be a problem. If the -Ue_ are so vastly spread out, they will have chapters all over the Trade Order. From one of these chapters it seems, they came to the Distant Stars.
The Trade Order itself is a UN like body where empires, nations, Corporations, etc. Gather to further increase profit, trade, and trading partners. It was only with the Invasion of the Vasari did the Trade Order really start to throw its political power. Creating the TEC. While any group can be part of the Trade Order, there are not strict guidelines given on what type of goverment can join. Its why you see Huge Buisnesses, Guilds, and other Economic forces having a say in the Trade Order. Just as long as these organizations can provide the basic humanitarian need to its holdings. It also allows an organaization to do what they will.
I agree. But I want to add that the TEC's central government would be focused on coordinating member planets, leaving actual government to local authorities. I feel that the framework of the Trade Order would be that of many, many planet-states of varying wealth, cycled through by numerous widespread commercial organisations as you say. The TEC was formed by an emergency wartime mandate.
This is why the TEC is not the end all be all of fleets. Allowing each organization to still fund their private sercurity forces. While they are required to aid the TEC, much like UN members are required to aid UN piecekeeping missions.
That would make sense, but still the whole point of the TEC was to relocate the autonomy of member planets. Independent planetary security forces would be domestically based, while all foreign policy is controlled by the TEC command.
We could debat the exact structure of the Trade Order and TEC, but thats another post. Right now we have Distant Stars lore to build on. What is happening back in Trader Space and/or how they are organized is of small concern to factions found within Distant Stars. The only major connection are the wormholes...which are controled on both sides by the Distant Stars factions.
I understand that we're expanding Distant Stars lore and all, but my ideas of the entire Trade Order relate to the society of the Distant Stars. If the worlds of origin are a certain style, then it makes sense that terran society developed in the same style. But you're right, there is no active link between Distant Stars and the main Trade Order.
Looking at the DS map only, he has -Ue_ in teh upper left corner, holding very little. Not sure if the proportions are correct.
The -Ue_ is an exploratory guild. I didn't expect them to have incentive to claim large swaths of territory as their own, just claim the profit from discovering new territory.
I have no systems in DS.
There is a chance I've missed out data from the pages of this RPG. Dictate the systems and I'll look into it.
The Undying.
