Mapping troubles..

Ill start off by saying this is my first custom map.. So yeah, this is gonna be a noob question :)

Ive made my map using GalaxyForge, a wonderful little app. Got everything said and done after following the begginers guide. I saved the map and dropped it in my /Galaxy folder. Now, when i go to find that map in-game, Its not even on the list.

Im stumped at this point, but ive got a feeling its something dumb im overlooking. If it helps, Im using Sins version 1.1.5, and entrenchement 1.01. Can anyone think of why this map isnt showing in my list?

Thanks in advance for any help.

For Entrenchment (I think), the location of the galaxy forge folder has changed. You need to put it in the galaxy forge folder in the Sins appdata folder (the same one where your mod folders are). Also, why are you using the out of date version? Unless you really like some mod that is only for 1.01 there isn't much reason not to update.

in entrenchment 1.01 it used the galaxy.manifest to load the maps from the program files galaxy folder, it was changed in 1.02 and later ot the user space galaxyforge folder.

oh and when editing the galaxy.manifest do not forget the count of maps at the top of the file

@GoaFan - Im not sure what galaxy forge folder your talking about? The guide didnt say anything about adding any folders, maybe thats what im missing?

@harpo - how do i edit the galaxy.manifest file? Do i open it with notepad or something else?

Thanks for the input so far.

any plain text editor can edit the galaxy.manifest, so yes notepad is suitable as is notpad++ which is freeware. also in my modding utilities pack is a galaxy manifest manager that replaces the existing galaxy.manifest with one that has all the sins\galaxy maps listed with the correct file count.

hope this helps

Wow, the begginers guide really doesnt tell you enough...

Is there a more all inclusive guide that explains the custom map making process. Like from the point of making the map and actually getting it to run ingame?

So your saying your utility will modify my galaxy.manifest to work with all the maps in the galaxy folder (including the ones I added, like my self-made maps) and correct it so my maps will work properly in-game. In other words i can drop my maps in the galaxy folder, use your tool, and play them?

I appreciate the help so far.

edit: I meant to add i intend to use the 1.01 version of entrenchment with these maps, if that will help clarify.

blazed, if you have old maps from before entrenchment that you want to play then my map updater v2.01 will correctly update ANY map from any map version to map version 3(sins 1.15+/entrenchment 1.01+/diplomacy) and for entrenchment 1.01 the galaxy manifest maker will create a NEW galaxy.manifest with all the maps in the program files galaxy folders and the correct count of galaxy's at the top of the file so that entrenchment 1.01 can offer all the maps in the small/medium/large maps ( the size is determined by the sins engine first by number of players, then number of GravityWells in the map).

here is a quick guide outline for entrenchment 1.01 (only) map adding

1 put map(s) in the program files\stardock games\sins of a solar empire\galaxy folder

2 run my galaxy manifest manager

3 click on the button 'auto-fix galaxy.manifests' (the second button on the top row)

4 click on exit ( the rightmost button on the second row)

5 start entrenchment 1.01, start a new game look through the map lists for the map you want to play, select the map and play

hope this helps

Its seems as though im getting an error when i go to lauch the manager. It reads:

"Found sins version ::

need sins version :1.1.8.0:

in the default location of \ "

Any clues why im getting that?

the manifest manager needs to see the sins folder to find the entrenchment galaxy.manifest to replace it, the program could not find the sins .exe in the path referred to in the registry in the path value in the registry key '
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\sins', also when you place the value in the registry you will get another error stating the sins version is wrong as it will report sins version 1.1.5.0 and need 1.1.8.0. for this error just edit the text file 'targetsinsver.txt' and change the 8 in the top line to 5. this check was put in place to prevent damaging your game installation.

if you had installed OR updated sins/entrenchment via IMPULSE these issues would not have happened

Lol I think you lost me at the registry part. I get how to change the version number, but how am i going about editing the registry?

I think i just need to update lol

yes the easiest way IS updating via impulse, the hard way is to use regedit to create the nessecry registry entries, these registry entries relate to impulse installer/updater location of the programs, and the current sins/entrenchment versions are 1.181/1.041
