Sins Wont Launch

So i recently bought sins on the stardock website.   It was some Sins Trinity Pack(Sins, Entrenchment, And the Diplomacy Beta).   It was only available for digital download, so i chose that option.

I finished downloading the original game first, then rebooted when asked.   I started it up and it played fine.

I Then installed Entrenchment, and again rebooted when asked.   Only this time when it started up, it gives me a black screen of death and my computer has to be rebooted to make programs work.   Not only that, but the orginal game wont work either now, whether or not i uninstall/reinstall Entrenchment.

I did i search to see any specific solutions to this problem, but none of them seem to be working for me.   The only way that my computer is able to keep functioning when the black screen occurs is to start the game in a windowed format.   When this happens, and i open the task manager, it tells me that sins is using about 50-60% CPU usage which is kinda weird.

Seeing as i just bought the game yesterday, im kinda bummed about not being able to play(not to mention loosing $40).

Any Ideas?

Does it throw any errors when you start it in windowed mode?

No Errors whatsoever.   I click on the icon to start the game, and the screen goes black like the cinamatic is going to begin, yet it stays black.   When it does this, it wont let me exit the program or do anything else on my computer until the task managed either closes it or forces my computer to restart.

But yeah, there are no errors at all.

A number of people have complained about this lately so it's definitely something that will need to be addressed by the developers.

I have read in other posts that the Sins Launcher screen no longer works and so you need to open the games up directly.  Find your Sins folder, probably in Program Files, and make a shortcut to "Sins of a Solar Empire.exe" (and if you have Entrenchment, "Sins of a Solar Empire Entrenchment.exe") and just put it on your desktop.

Are you still having a problem if you try open the game file directly?

If i try to open the games directly, the original game works fine, but entrenchment still does the black screen and tried to lock out my computer.   I havent tried the diplomace beta though, so im hoping that it will work fine.

Another thing that has been bothering me is impulse.  If i verify my games, it says that diplomace is installed correctly but sins and entrenchment are not.   But the update it offers is the same one that i already have.

Weird...

EDIT: Diplomacy does the exact same thing as entrenchment.

Onyun, do you have any custom map files in your "Galaxy" folder--in your main Sins folder?  If so they all need to be removed and placed in your Application Data folder's "Galaxy Forge" folder.  See post #2 in this thread to learn more about how to find your Application Data folder:

Yes it appears that i did indeed have a custom map in my sins folder, so i have removed it.    However my problem is still happening.   I believe it is because of a defective download or something, and am waiting on confirmation from Stardock about it.

It appears that my Sins Games are not recognising themselves as being a playable version.  And it appears incapable of providing a correct update.

Im at a loss as to why one of the games works when the others wont, but thats what im hoping Stardock will be able to explain.

This issuing is also affecting me.  I have just installed Win 7 x64 so this is a new install, all drivers are the latest and greatest.  Sins works fine when loaded straight off the disc, but has this problem after I install the update.  Launching the game from the folder works, I haven't tried to do this with Entrechment yet.

Do any of you have 2 "Sins of a Solar Empire Entrenchment.exe"? Whenever I hit one, I get a minidump or the program can't determine if "user.setting" is binary or text. If i use the other .exe, I get a black screen. Anyone know what's wrong?
