We haven't announced yet the addition of Oc. Right now, it's just tech savvy users who are able to add him.
End of Istari's quote

tech savvy means be able to recompile the demigod.exe to allow the script to be run and enable Oc? Ive reinstalled both Impulse and Demigod ran both on administrative, registered at the website and recieved a confirmation email with a new serial not the same as noted on the box. logged in to multiplayer and still Oc is unavailable/greyed out. Please dont give BS to customers who paid for the game! from day 1 of having NAT issues of online to now having updates not work well. Im not surprised why i havent played this game for 4 months now!

nicetrydre: close Impulse, delete your Demigod folder in My Games and execute this registry script: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/373670/get;2506128 (forum is broken right now, at least for me, so I can't insert a proper link). Then start Demigod as Administrator again and log into online Multiplayer.

And why "BS"? It simply means, that it hasn't been announced yet officially, that Occulus is released now and therefore we have no other instructions yet, other than those in the History.

this the same. even with that registry fix you gave the same result. Oc is greyed out choosing him as AI give DA in-game. ill just quit playing this. i just opened it up again because impulse notified me of an update.

Thanks for the help. It was BS because an update should be download and install and that we as an end user should not be given complex instruction on how to get a content working. example on xbox live/ steam/ windows update et.al.

I agree with you nicetrydre.

It is indeed BS, and feels like a dentist pulling my tooth with his bare hands, instead of using proper equipment to do it.

All in all, SD made deliberately difficult for us something so simple as enabling Occulus, the so-long-awaited demigod. And their answer to all this (frogboy) is that they were testing how many people were willing to go into their DLC purchase page, to enable it, aka testing future DLC releases. So They blamed us.

p.s. If you are still willing to play, you can uninstall and reinstall the game, this will fix it. At least it fixed it for me. If you dont mind the Uninstall/Install procedure, that is.

I was able to enable Occulus without having to anything be type my email into the link they provided. I believe many of the issues being experienced may be attributed to the servers needing to sync. In that case, the answer is:

  1. Update to the new patch
  2. Go to the website and fill out your email address
  3. Go have a a sandwich
  4. Take out the trash
  5. Wash some dishes
  6. Login to Impulse via demigods
  7. Create a game.
  8. Check if you have Occulus enabled.

Of course, now that Frogboy was kind enough to order a server wide account update this process may be completely unnecessary (beyond updating to the new version).

Relax people, really, it will be okay.

I tried all the fixes also, including re-installing the game. Finally got it to work by hosting a game in multiplayer...not just logging into MP had to host a game than he was selectable.Thundercles posted this in another thread hope it helps someone else.

Yes, because pressing a button is the equivalent of what Job went through...

We wanted to see if there was a way to justify making more maps and demigods for the game. We'll never know now.

Anyway, I've emailed the teams involved that we're just going to make the new Demigods available. Sorry for any inconvenience.

In all honesty frogboy; making new maps...hell making any new demigods beyond Da and OC seems like it just going to be a complete waste of time.

Uh, what did you think was going to happen? As transparent as Stardock usually are, it would have been nice to get a heads-up on the situation.

Also, are you trying to imply that because no one was notified of this plan and some of us (including myself) raised a stink about the situation (and the possibility of the future outcomes), Demigod players no longer get meaningful content updates? How the hell does that work?

"Hey guys, Oculus is available now. By the way, you need to 'download and activate him' through a store page. Oh what's that? You want to be told what we're planning and don't like this system? FINE, NO UPDATES FOR YOU!"

Bit of a d*** move if I do say so myself.

Inflammatory posts like these hinder communication between Stardock and us, so please cool it. You're not helping.

Good. I hope you don't need to post in the forum anymore too ;). But if you still want to try and fix it: it seems like you have the same issue as here: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/373689

Simply create a support ticket by writing to [email protected] and the problem should get resolved for you.

Meh, the whole affair only took me about 20 seconds, it's a shame that this means the system for paying for new content (and thus any hope of getting new content) has been scrapped.

Sometimes I just feel like Frogboy just isn't used to how awful people are on the internet. People who know nothing about him or his company seem to get through to him too easily... but that being said I have neither fans nor trolls paying attention to everything/anything I say or do, so maybe I just don't understand how stressful it can be.

They're testing the system for purchasing Demigods in the future. How could regular forum posters not realize this? It's a good thing it's free; could you imagine spending money with this system?
End of Shade's quote

Back in the beta there was concept art for a few demigods we dont have. Maybe those are in production. I'd spend money for more. Not more than a couple of bucks, but I would buy them.

Huh? Why does it mean that for you? To me it just means the opposite, otherwise they wouldn't go through all the trouble of setting up pages where you can buy additional Demigod content.

Including content such as additional heroes/maps in which you need to pay more money for in the MOBA genre is really not going to work in my opinion. The sucess of the game is impacted largely by the balance of the heroes and maps, and by adding content that not everyone has access to will create an imbalance. If there's one thing gamers hate in this genre of game its imbalance.

Also when you look at other games in the genre, they all have a larger hero base + are always adding new heroes at no additional cost to the user.

The only things that could be included are non-balance related such as new skins for demigods or maps, but people are not likely to want to pay much for these features.

Hence :

But hey I could be wrong...

Additional maps will not create an imbalance.

Shame on you Stardock, this was the most ridiculous kind of an update I have ever seen.

To view history to get a link, where we have to put in our email!!!

How stupid is this, Stardock already has our email, why did you not send the link to our email, which is connected to our account???

Just another piece that shows us that we are still in a beta.

Today I could select the demigods, without starting as an admin and without logging into multiplayer. yay!

Monochrom_Atom: the release of Occulus has not been announced yet officially. Stardock originally wanted to make an announcement today, including a link to the page where you can add Occulus to your account. But I think now they are simply going to add Occulus to everyones account anyway.

There is no need to get upset about that.

Oh for God's sake, will you stop saying that official announcement already? So what is "official" ?

Its just a post in the front page, all that is needed. It seems more like an excuse to me. I dont think frogoy didnt have time to make a simple post with a link in it to the page where you get Occulus, since he had time to post here.

It didnt have to be pretty, just an announcemet like:

"Hello Demigod players, we have Occulus ready for you, to enable him follow this link http://xxxxxxxxxxx.xxx and enter your e-mail."

If that really is what it means then no that isn't a shame at all. I would be thrilled to know any new "paid content" is completely scrapped even if it was a GREAT map and an AWESOME demigod. The last thing this game needs is another division in the community. Paid content would be exactly that; there will be people who do pay for it and people who don't. Even if they were compatible there is no way people without access to a new DG would allow someone with access to use him against them.

In addition to the hassle it is to find games because of your win percentage and the fact that you like to play with friends this game really doesn't need another excuse for people not to play with good/dedicated players. No new content isn't a great prospect but the community of this game isn't large enough to break up into two parts.

It's a real shame to because there is a huge crowd of people out there who came from the Warcraft 3 / Dota genre that were desperatly looking for something with the same idea and would have been all over this game if the marketing on it would have been better. League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth had a nice hype going and both games are completely inferior to Demigod. Honestly Demigod has some of the best balancing there is and the concept and gameplay are both extremely well done. The choice for Stardock's Impulse (1 million users around march of 2009) over Valve's Steam (20 million users in february of 2009) is one that I will never understand but I realize that argueing that on a Stardock forum isn't something I should expect to be met with a great deal of sympathy.

I should say that the Stardock support crew is in general really responsive and quite helpful, but in my opinion the quality of the game (other than perhaps the netcode at release) was good enough to make this game not just an incredible success, but also the start of a series that would have had a lot of followers. It's a shame that the game didn't take off the way I think it could have and ultimately that's also why there will now be no basis to release expanions, sequals or even paid downloadable content. I've played a fair amount of games in this genre and whenever I claim that other games are not as good as Demigod, I'm always met with the same response. Never do I get a list of counter arguments comparing games, I will always be responded to with a simple "Demigod, what's that?".

Perhaps this isn't the right thread or even forum to vent these grievances in and I realize you can view this as a frontal attack on Stardock since they are the publisher but I have no interest invested with Stardock; only with Demigod and to a lesser extent GPG as it's developer. For the game and myself as an active player of the game it's a shame that the future is looking grim and I expect the next 6 months to be the final 6 months in the far too short lifespan of Demigod. It deserved more but I will enjoy it for as long as I can because it's a great game.

Huh, why are you getting so worked up about this? That was probably exactly what they would have done today. But Frogboy said yesterday, that they will simply add Occulus to everyone's account now, so such an announcement won't be needed anymore anyway.
