I just got a crazy awsome idea! Pay attention devs

Hybrid ships

So while I was thinking about all the various pacts are available so that one faction can share thier technology with the other for both of thier benifit, I thought of the logical conclusion to this. Hybrid cap ships! When you get to the top level of relations with a forien faction (and have perfored the right reserch). You have the option to build a cap ship that is a special hybrid of your faction and the faction your making the pact with (so there would be three different ones TEC-Advent, Advent-Vasari, and Vasari-TEC). This would not be a super ship mind you but combine the wepons and abilities of the two factions into one ship. So it wouldnt in itself be more powerfull than other capships but the unique ability from combining the focus of the two factions would make it a stratigic boon. You would be limited to one (of one per alliance if another ally offers this pact to you. This would give a solid military benifit to gaining diplomatic ties with other factions (and shut up the people who keep crying that this is a war game. Plus it will add some new ship models to this expansion, a request ive heard since the begining of the beta. Ill update with any abilitys for the three I can think of but please share your ideas. What do you think of the concept.

Wait...so this is going to be a new capital ship all together then? Sounds interesting. It would make the weapon pacts slightly more useful for the different races. However, it does seem like a bit of a stretch to implement and balance since we are already in Beta 3.

There aren't going to be any new ships, it's way too late in development to add one.

I wouldn't be so sure. There's some interesting things in the localization files. Also screenshots show a sixth capital ship.

its not a capital ship... that picture was a bug...  They addressed this a long time ago, but apparently nobody ready that post...

At any rate, as much I would like to see something like that, wait for modding.  Someone will likely mod that at some point, so just be patient.  The devs aren't going to add in three new things at the last minute and pray that they work.  It won't happen.

That may be true, but I think that the devs are definitly considering or at least have considered adding some new ships. Destroyers. There is evidence within the string files of this. It was in .9 beta and is still there in .95. If the idea was canned why are they still there?

Well, even if they are ment for an expansion after Dip. Its still something for those wanting this to look forward to.

I also look forward to some of the mods in development. Such as the one Volt_Cruelerz is making and others.

These things will really make Sins an even more dynamic and enjoyable expirience. Great stuff Devs and modders!

Destroyer Class ships would be badass. :D Though.. are Destroyers BIGGER or SMALLER than Cruisers/Capships in this case? In Freespace Destroyers were the big ones....

In real life, destroyers are smaller than battleships, cruisers, and carriers.  In my mod, they are a type of capital that specializes in direct combat (essentially exchanging health for firepower.  For instance, the TEC destroyer, the Gartel, deals good damage by default but has an abilty that temporarily increases its weapon banks.  The Advent one is a little different though.  It specializes in shield killing.  Ie, it drains shields and has an anti-shield ability.  It also has a passive that increases mitigation of surrounding forces slightly.  Its ultimate kills its own shields to rip apart the shields and hull of an enemy ship.

So it really depends with what you want to go with.  When first beginning the mod, I was planning to have destroyers as a demi-capital, but eventually decided to buff the health of current battleships and to just give destroyers lots and lots of guns.

Yes three brand new ships. i cant see why they couldnt do this. It would be a direct military aplication of diplomacy efforts. I dont see why it would be too late to add this in. Ive seen moders do it in less time and they arnt paid. Id like to get a dev reaction to this idea though. It seems to me the correct conclusion to all the tec sharing in the pacts system. plus you would make pats stratigicaly based on which of the three hybrid ships you wanted. Ballance shouldnt be too bad either as you could only have one of them and your making it basic wepons on par with other cap ships. its the abilities that make it a strategic asset

You know, pretty much all of the ships in the TEC aresenal are transformed CIVILIAN ships, with armor literally slapped on--save for the Kol. Adding more ships could be as easy as bolstering the ones that are already there. Changing the ships appearance and performance as an evolution. The Marza would become more streamlined--Advent-like, to allow more weapons mounts and bristling awesomeness for example.

For that matter, this game is evolving... so why don't the ships evolve too? Maybe we don't necessarily need NEW ships, but make the ones we have better. All three factions... well, maybe not the Advent could use some TLC in their ship designs. Particularly since they are all fighting one another.

How about another hostility/military tech tree? Call it "Capital Ship Tech" Tree--That allows you to research "Kol Mk II" or "Marza Mk V", etc? Each one having increased capability, firing arcs, etc? Leave their ABILITIES alone for the most part. So you could theoretically have a Mk I Kol, a Mk II-VIII. Tie that research in with the fleet capital ship research. You can't have a Mk VIII unless you have full capital ship capacity researched.

That may be so, and there is some pretty good work out there, but lets not forget that the devs are doing quite a bit more at the moment than just adding some ships. Like creating a whole new expansion "Diplomacy" and ironing everything out so everything is sweet.

Like you I am keen to see these new ships, but they may or may not have been intended for diplomacy we don't know. We'll just have to wait and see. I for one certainlly don't want imply that they will or should be. I'd rather leave that up to the devs.

Obviously many people have stated that they are wishing for something like this. I'm sure the dev's are reading all these posts, so personally I'm very optimistic that we will see these ships at some time in the relatively near future. But perhaps not for Diplomacy.

@Leu: that actually was an idea we had for the mod, but it was eventually dropped because it would be best to just buff the capitals a bit.  Research would never be used unless in the case of capital ship spam of the same type.  Ie the Advent would research the carrier one so they could rush Halcyons all day long.

@Zero: Pretty much the way I feel.  However, Diplomacy is going to be the last micro-expansion, which leaves a few options:

  1. A full fledged expansion (possibly having whatever is chasing the Vasari added as a race)
  2. Sins II
  3. A brand new title.

Now, I personally don't know what they will do, but I doubt they would go with 3 as it would mean that IC is abandoning a very well selling title.  1 would be nice, but I don't think it will happen.  The game is three years old, expansions won't come out forever.  Instead, I find it likely that for a time they will continue to balance it before officially announcing Sins II. Once they bring out Sins II, they will kill Sins I usage, but I've got a feeling it will be very similar.

More than likely, most capitals and frigates will be the same, but I think a few things would get switched around.  What?  I'm not entirely sure since just about everything is just about as good as it can get.  I suppose the only real option would be to add more ships or have researchables for super-frigates.  For instance, in my mod, there is the Defense Cruiser.  Only available late game (its tier VII-VIII) it is made to deal with just about anything.  Its primary use is an anti-sc gunboat, but it also has a heavier weapon made for ripping apart light targets (aka LRF).

So perhaps a higher research tree?  Maybe have it go up to tier XVI instead so that if games drag on you can really bring out big guns?  Idk..  But its an idea..  Aside from that, really the only thing I know that needs adjustment (aside from bug fixing of course) is the AI.  It needs priorities and needs to know to level ships up in certain ways under certain conditions.  Make it go with capitals that are actually going to fill a niche, and not just provide experience for the player.

I still like the idea of using a learning computer to watch JJ's replays to derive parameters from it for different actions.  The end result is that it is going to learn how to kill most people.  In this case of course, easy would be when you have an income bonus of +1000%.  (This is just a joke idea as I simply find it funny..  Its not going to happen...)

At any rate, there is a thread like this that if you wish to discuss what will happen to sins after Diplomacy, you can.

if they do go the sins 2 route it'd be nice if loyal sinners got the game at 1/2 price or something (like u bought the game and both ex packs b4 a certain date). just some wishful thinking, and there better be a new capship, i'm getting tired of the same ol tired ships.

I dunno. I just picked back up on Tec again, and I decided to build an Akkan BC first, and was surprised by just how fast my game progressed. It was kind of disgusting. Just try new tactics/strategies.

How were you disgusted?  The Akkan finally works!  It gives you instant extractors and boosts the extraction rate of those, giving them a huge buff to your economy.

I wasn't disgustED, it was disgustING. ;)

"a feeling of revulsion or profound disapproval aroused by something"

So why was it disgusting?

I have always wishes they would make the game more 3d......let me explain.  I usally take my camera above the planet and look downbut when I bring it down all the ships are pretty close to one another, as far as up and down go. A ship or two will to move away from another ship or if you stack to buildings to close.  But I am talking about all the way down and having phase lanes leave all parts of the planet, thus requesting 2 SB's per planet and double the tatical slots per planet...... :)

I understand that this is a new title idea and probably has been touched on before when the game came out.  I just felt like bringing it up.

That would be AWESOME. Instead of all of the planets being on the eccliptic, make it so you can have a phase lane right 'above' the planet. I also think they should add 'microstarbases'. Starbases that you can put anywhere but are only capable of minor bits of the abilities of the main starbase.

Please, there is a thread for suggestions for Sins II elsewhere.  Please post in that one.

Star fall isn't even around.  And titles are not everything.  A thread's topid is determined by the OP.  The OP does not deal with suggestions for Sins II.  For that reason I want you guys to post there.  That way I can stop getting messages about this thread that turn out to be posts that do not interest me at all.

I agree with Volt here. I started this thread to deal with my specific Idea for DIPLOMACY not sins 2. This is the wrong section of the forums for Sins 2 sugestions. I keep seeing updates on this thread just to find that it has nothing to do with what I put forward. Still disapointed no devs have commented on it...

This. If there ever was any consideration, it was cut long before the Beta started.

Because it's easier just to remove the in-game references? There's files for research to unlock pacts, and those aren't used at all.
