Sins slows to a crawl

Just wondering if anyone else is still having the problem of the game slowing to a crawl. After I colonize about 7 or 8 planets, If I build to many mines, fighter and bommer squadrens, cap ships, and cruisers, the game slows down to a crawl, even at 8x speed. I am runnins an AMD 6000 (3.1 mhz) dual core, 9500 Nvidia video card with 1 gig DDR3 ram, 4 gigs of system ram, Windows XP Pro. (Yes I know XP only sees a bit over 3gigs of system ram). So I am sure my system is not the problem. I can run Gal Civ 2 full speed with tons of ships, starbases etc, and no slow downs at all. I have also checked it against other games with various speed tests, and it runs great.

I have had this same problem since SINs came out. I am running Diplomacy, and Entrenchment now, with the same problems.

I have tried tuning the graphics, and UI down to the minimum, but it seems to make absolutely no difference.

If anyone has a fix for this I would really appreciate it.

It's your processor.  All the calculations are bottlenecking it.  Increasing the speed wont help because that just increases the processes it has to run.

A large game has massive processing requirements in the later stages, and it's not multi-threaded, so that second core isn't much help with performance.  I have the same problem, the joys of having a slightly older architecture with half the bandwidth of the next step up.  It will fly with your next upgrade.

Personally, I like random medium one star maps.  You should see very little slowdown unless you're turtling till you max out the fleet research or something.

It really wont fly, im running a phenom ii 850 4x 2.6gig and my game crawls on medium-large random maps w/ 60 stars and 6 players

I have to agree with teani - it won't fly.

I'm running sins on a phenom II X3 720 BE (three cores at 2.8ghz) with a HD3870 512mb and 4gb ram under vista x64. Monitering my cpu core, gpu and ram usage with rivatuner, the CPU is rarely above something like 50%/25%/10%, and often lower. It looks as though the game is using multiple cores to some extent, though even core0 isn't anywhere near max load. Ram usage stays below 2gb and the graphics card never gets above 50%, and averages around 25%.

Despite all this, as

Version 0.95 I was lagging with a medium map, 3 players and 3 Ai's and I don't have a hardware issue - we shall see with v1.0

I usually dont have a problem with speed. I can run 6-8 players on a large map with little lag. Usually lags when you get 2+ end game fleets fighting in the same grav well and Im zoomed in watching the battle. And this is with the Distant Stars Mod which allows for bigger fleets and has graphic improvments. My computer is just a Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.5GHz with 4GB of RAM.

Make sure you turn off show trade ship icons...that will save you alot. Also reducing your Empire tree to nothing and/or the bare bones will save your FPS more than anythign else. I use to have the slow down like your saying till I killed my Empire tree. If you not tried that yet give it a shot.
