Crashing... 1 hour or so into matches

Specs:

Q6600 @ 3.0ghz

4gb ram

GTX 260 Oc'ed

Win 7 x64 Pro

 

I just got this game a couple of days ago and I've crashed 9/10 matches I've played now. It's getting really annoying and I can't enjoy a match with my friends. I have one mini dump from the older version, but I'm now patched to the brand new version and it's still crashing, but without minidumps.

What can I do to solve these crashes?

There shouldn't be any issues with not enough memory. I was monitoring it and there was still 2.5gb of physical memory and I have a 2gb page file as well.

ok the service rep I was talking to stopped responding to me so I believe he's stumped as well.

 

The most recent crash today was on a large system - Hyperion's gates with 4 players and 4 AI and two of us crashed at the EXACT same time. It's obvious that there is an issue within the game... here's the NEW logfile created today and it once again was about sound filenames:

Consistant sound errors are usually caused by old sound drivers. I haven't seen any sound related bugs in a long time otherwise. Have you updated your sound card drivers? (This may require updating your motherboard as well, since many soundcards are now integrated)

I have the most up to date for my soundcard (Audigy SE).

I had to use that because the onboard stereo plug on my old headset shattered in the actual plug area. So I HAD to get another card so I could have sound and that was all I could afford.

 

If anybody could give me techniques for getting broken off stereo jacks out of my onboard's plugin slot, be my guest.

I also have a similar problem with Windows 7 64bit.  It's usually roughly an hour in (fairly inconsistent, though) and never left a minidump.  I believe there's a thread on this somewhere else as well <https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/357146>, but we didn't figure out as much as you had.

 

What log file were you looking at?  Maybe if we get enough info to IC, they can figure it out.

log files that are created in my debug folder. What I've posted is all I have in terms of logs at this time. It's been pretty much determined that it's a sound issue.

maybe it's creative cards in vista/7

 

I know they had a lot of issues with vista when the drivers were first released.

I am having the exact same problem while running Diplomacy. It never happened to me before, either when playing vanilla or Entrenchment. About one hour into the game, it will just close itself without giving me any error messages. I'm running it with the Distant Stars mod. Will try to do a diplomacy game without any mods to see if it is still an issue.

 

Current system:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - RC build

AMD Phenom X4 @ 3.0 Ghz

4 gigs of RAM

ATI Radeon HD 5870

So me and my four friends tried entrenchment 1.5 (no mods), Sins of a Galactic Empire and the Star Trek mod and we all always crash during a multiplayer map...

Ironclad, you tease us! You give us a good game, but it crashes a lot so we can't fully enjoy it!

Alright, I tried the Large Address Aware and it hasn't crashed . Let's hope it keeps working. Gossammer, I think it would help others if you could specify how exactly the game is crashing.

Yep it helped me 2. No more crashes!!!

I recommend everyone who has experienced this

Ok I'm confused, if this is an option this guy is enabling in executables by changing 1 byte and there are no adverse effects why aren't games being released with this done already?

Like mentioned in the link, there will be problems if your system doesn't have enough memory. They say not to use it if you have less than 3 gigs in your machine. They can't really assume you have that kind of hardware - especially for this game which was released 2 years ago.

It would be nice if games would be released with both versions available, though.

Because 32 bit users (read: XP users) have to modify their OS to make it work. Game devs would get blasted for releasing a game that requires users to mod an OS to prevent it crashing.
