Upgrading saved games?

Expansions?

Hey all.

I was wondering if I buy the Entrenchment and Diplomacy upgrades, will my saved games in vanilla be able to be played in the expansions with the expansion content, or will I have to start an entirely new game to take advantage of the new content? I'm just wondering because I have a nice game going in Vanilla, and I'd hate to lose that if I buy and download the expansions online then find out I can't build starbases or minefields in my vanilla saved game.

Example:

1.Homeworld doesn't have any starbases or minefields in my saved game in Vanilla.

2. I download the expansion, and then it adds new content like starbases and minefields.

3a. Will I be able to load up that Vanilla save game and then build the starbase or minefield at my homeworld while playing within the Entrenchment and / or Diplomacy expansio?

3b. I am unable to build the new stuff on my homeworld because the save game isn't compatible or gets corrupted? Meaning I have to load up Vanilla to be able to play / load that saved game?

Which will happen? 3a? or 3b?

3b will happen. You won't be able to play your vanilla save in Entrenchment or Diplomacy. Also note that if you patch your game it will likely invalidate your saved game.

well, if you have not yet updated to the current version of Sins vanillia (1.19) then yes your game will be gone

if you are and you decide to get the expansion, rejoice!

for you can still play vanilla and not have to worry about the expansions interferring with your game as they have their own .exe file and save game locations.

you just can't play with the new toys

I have the GOTY edition. Is it the most up-to-date patched version?

No.  The current version of regular Sins is v1.19.

The current version for Entrenchment is v1.05.

The current version for Diplomacy is (I assume) v1.00.

I meant is the GOTY version I bought last Friday the most up-to-date version of vanilla? Meaning its version 1.19 out of the box?

I was also wondering if I buy Entrenchment and Diplo, then play only Entrenchment. Then transfer my Entrenchment save games into Diplo when the super-powered pirate issue is fixed? Or will I have to create a whole new save game when I stop playing Entrenchment and start Diplo?

Just wondering if I have to wait a while before playing Diplo or if I can expect the pirates to be fixed in a few days so I don't lose out on epic Sins games?

You can't transfer saves between Vanilla, Entrenchment, or Diplomacy. Also, to see what version of the game you have just look at the bottom right hand corner of your screen on the main menu page.

I suspect that the boxed GOTY version that is on store shelves only includes an older version of the game--probably whatever version was availabl when the DVDs were burned.  But don't despair, you can update it with Impulse.

It probably wouldnt be that hard to "upgrade" saved games because all the lesser versions have everything that the higher versions have (Dip. has everything that Ent. has, therefore you dont get units from another expansion). If Ironclad tried, they could probably do it. Although i suspect they are busy planning for Sins 2.

Now I understand better why my save games are always invalid. I return to SOSE every other month and discover that I have to start all over X|
