Ships going way out of planets gravity wells

Whats this due to?

My ships are heading out WAY out of their planets gravity wells. It started when a pirate raid came, and the pirates flew off out of a star bases way. It then started going into a phase lane and after a few minutes, it seemed like the pirates were in a phase lane but they were actually travelling way out of a planets gravity wells into plain ole dark space. Anyone knows whats happening or whats this caused by? I think its due to the radius of a system star. Mines 200 while a normal one is 100.

Funny thing is, only the cpu does that and i cannot move my units into dark space, but they can actually go by themselves into dark space

diplomacy?

I've seen this with Envoys, they sometimes station themselves a vast distance out, I can't move my units to this space but I can target the ship and my units will venture out there.

Are you running any mods?

i've actually seen it as well, though only a few times (i've only seen them go vertically up from the gravity well plane). generally a quick fix if it is your own ship is to simply phase jump them into an adjacent gravity well. if it's someone else's ships though, just take advantage i guess.

If you have a large universe, they may be jumping from star to star but moving slowly due to the size.  I saw this behavior in Entrenchment but haven't since Diplomaacy.

This has been observed seemingly at random since practically the beginning of Sins, maybe even the beta. (I think) We don't really know why it happens, but it doesn't have to be pirates, even player ships have been observed doing this, in all versions of the game. There is a modding error that can create this as well, but only with strikecraft. In your case, just be glad those pirate ships are going nowhere anytime soon, and even once they reach their destination they can't hurt you (some people have even got there ships to other gravity wells without using phaselanes, yet the game thinks there are still in the original gravity well, so they can't attack anything). Hopefully that equals one pirate raid you don't need to worry about.

Yeah I get it often and randomly ever since Entrechment. its annoying but doesnt bother me too much b/c of my playstyle. I really cant complain since this is the biggest consistant bug Ive had ever with SINS.

Anyhow I get it most often with alot of ships trying to get into their respective ranks and as they do I tell them to jump. They all get caught up in one another some jump no problem, some have to realine then jump, so fly to the farthest point you away you can phase jump from a planet then jump, then every so often a few will start flying off into the unknown. Must be a serious case of Cabin Fevor.
