Why not just create an option to make Pirates either a factor or not - I mean scale it 1-5 with 5 being a major Pirate presence in the game and 1 being a minor presence in the game. IMO, Pirates need to be A factor in the game, and not THE factor. They should never become so powerful that it takes huge fleets to destroy them. Others might disagree, which is why I'd like an option in the next patch to scale them down.

sry but i just dont get this,

i know im not that great in this game, i had alot of trouble dealing with a hard AI at point blank prior to diplomacy,

so far the 'new' pirates are, well, tough, but overpowered? Hell no! (haven't updated to the patch yet)

Im a turtle by nature so maybe that has something to do with it? recently i just let a planet be swarmed because i was convident my defensive structures combined with the newly created units coming from a border-planet would deal with them, yeah the defensive came in 1 by 1 and there were only a few when the raping began, so i lost the planet a few times (kept sending a colonizer to it to regain it) and the pirates stayed there well over time (the next party had set out to my enemy and my planet was still being attacked)

so yeah, it wasn't as painless as i would have liked it, but i did manage with minimum trouble, this was end-game, meaning my resources where pretty high and the pirates pretty powerfull, as soon as i noticed they would go for me i made trouble to make sure it wouldn't hurt too much and in the end it was a victory where most of the time my attention was somwhere else,

im sure any avarage player could own the hell out of me so if you can't deal with pirates, GET BETTER & STOP WHINING

You like it..I don't...thus the need for a scale so that you and I can choose. Everyone is happy. Seems like I am not the only one with the problem....you are in the minority.

yeah I like it, and if you dont, thats fine, just turn them off then.

Whatever your vision for pirates is, doesn't quite matter, even if you belong to the majority, it's about what the developers of the game think pirates should be, if the majority would suddenly want that the space ponies achievement into a fleet of actual space ponies that would own everything, it still not gonna happen because its not what the developers have visioned for the game (im gonna asume anyway)

if you disagree with the developers, go mod the game. thats what modding is for.

final note,

most of the pll who complain will find support on forums because most of the ppl who think stuff are fine as they are don't have much reasons for coming to the forums and actualy tell ppl they think its fine as it is, the forums are often filled with whiners so it appears like whiners are the majority even if the aren't.

Well I think what assidian is trying to ask for is something similar to choosing difficulty of the other players, which then its a great idea to choose the difficulty of how well the pirates play.

I disagree 100% with this, and its a good way to make people not engage in the forums.

my choice of words are a bit harch, alright, very harch and maybe i should say it a bit nicer but i do think there is a fair amount of truth in it, i just seem to have said it in not the best way.

I dunno I have seen alot of changes from what the community asks for, but really a good fix for the current pirate issue would be choosing the difficulty for the ai as well as on or off, easy normal hard unfair cruel and nutts

That would seem to be the best option... I don't like it myself because I think that if the pirates are a major pain in the players butt the player is doing it wrong, but maybe thats just me,

a dificulty slider would give everyone what they want, even those ppl who think it shouldnt be necesary (like me)

Well I like the pirates... they always attack me, so I can camp at home and get my cap lvls up.  And still get the few bases needed to get my empires backbone laid.  Then I move forward to get more log slots to improve my stuff typical turtle routine nothing special. :)

@mikefacciola

special is that you are so far the first person who gets attacked constantly and still haven't become a whiner :)

i simply outbid the AI, its not too hard... or a starbase at the most likely target-planet does fine too,

OT:

instead of a slider, maybe the pirates should be the general difficulty, if there is 1 weak and 1 strong AI the pirates are moderate, if there are mostly easy AI then the pirates are easy, if there are mostly hard AI then the pirates are hard, etc, this would be better because ppl who cant deal with pirates ATM will simply need more practice (and probably different tactics as well) so let the game difficulty (by which i mean the general AI difficulty) specify how though the pirates are

It would be nice to hear the game devs take on future plans for the pirates or what they want to do with them.  I gave up on outbidding, when i get to 4k I say well Ill build a new cap ship and send the pirates this way cause I need to lvl up my cap ship anyways.  The problem is most people like to expand out as quick as they can.  I choose maps where I am in my corner.  I expand out and defend the outter planet 3 turrets and a repair shop.  hell 1 cap ship will do the job with the repair shop.  I can get a SB up within 5 mintues of starting the game with TEC, so once that goes up its safe to say, the pirates arent a probelm.
