Don't Nerf Pirates!

Haven't played since the new update but I have seen people complain about the pirates since the realease. I for one am happy with them where their at. In the original and Entrenchment pirates have been simply "easy experience" for my ships but in DIplomacy I have found myself avoiding them which in reality should be the case. If I do decide to fight the pirates no matter how big my fleet I have to expect losses and in some cases complete loss, pirates should be strong enough to come into your orbit and rape you, anything else would be again "easy experience".

As for the pirate missions they are perfect, for example I found myself holding a front line with another player for sometime without either side bending too much. I sent a present(pirstes) to my so called friend while I blindsided him, he couldn't fight both battles and it eventually costed him the game. The pirates completely changed the game at that point and that should be the whole purpose of the pirates. Now some say to ease back on them and some like them the way they are so here's what I think would solve it:

First at the game options screen give the players an option to change the difficulty of the pirates right next to the option to turn them off and on. Secondly, when pirates attack someone's planet I have noticed players scuttle buildings and just let the pirates have the planet and then rebuild. It shouldn't be that easy... If the pirates come to rape you thats what should happen, you get raped. I suggest that while the pirates are in a planets orbit that players shouldn't have the ability to scuttle buildings and take the easy way out, seriously if pirates show up to rape you they would not be enough time to scuttle. My friends and I have made a verbal agreement to take it as a man and either fight them off or get raped. A temporary non scuttle while pirates attack would be nice to see.

Besides that I love the game and hope to spend hours playing it.

Because dozens of Cruisers that rival level 10 caps, and only cost a handful of credits to send was such a great thing for the game.

A standard pirate raid for a couple of hundred credits should never be able to take down a fully upgraded (weapons/armor) vasari starbase which is sat next to a ton of repair bays. If you want tougher pirates, you're in a minority on this forum let alone amongst all the Sins players who don't post here. Use a mod, that's what they're for, making the game better for minorities. The vanilla game caters for the majority, I suggest you get over it.

you certainly like that word "rape". how about "pillage"? or "loot"? these "pirates" behave more like the Vandals and the Huns than "Blackbeard" or "Captain Jack".

Not so much nerfing them as capping their ability to upgrade. I definitely like em tougher, but there comes a point at the moment where they just simply get too tough and are absolutely unstoppable. They shouldn't be unstoppable.

Not that I care either way - I'm not a diplomacy man, and I'm not a pirate man either - but my problem lorewise with this is, why should a gang of pirates sitting on some asteroid be more powerful than the vasari, a race which ruled over most of the entire galaxy?  Or why should they be more powerful than the freakish advent, a race which strikes terror in the heart's of the TEC?

It's not about being able to beat them, it's about the game being less fun when the pirates are made the centre of the universe. I'm sure if I could be bothered I could take them out; it would require going back to diplomacy 1.00, loading the save where I owned every planet and had maxed out research and fleet then sending wave after wave into their base until they were dead. I could do that, but it would be dull as hell, and take ages.

I managed perfectly well holding off the pirates to reach that stage of the game, and I'm not a particularly good player. The thing is, I spent a lot less time fighting the AI because they were dealing with pirates as well. I much prefer having a good fight against the AI, rather than fighting pirates over and over and over.

Playing the patched diplomacy now - it's much better.

We bads, we bads...LoL!!! bads...I am sorry the bads had to ruin it for all the goods out there.  You keep wining those games and feeling skilled, winner.

On topic: The pirates should not be another player on the map...not in the same capacity as a race anyway.  They are a nucence, and while they SHOULD be somewhat of a threat, I think the basic pirate raids (the non mission ones) should just be cause for moving a fleet to defend, not a full-on second combat front for a player that may have outbid you by only 250cr.  A 250cr planet killing fleet is kinda broken, even THOUGH the bid-winner does not have direct control over it.  A paid for mission on the other hand WOULD/SHOULD be able to get crazy, more so in number than illogical, seemingly arbitrary, damage/armor-value increases.

So, while some of you are Juz 2 1337 4 M3, the rest of us would like a ballanced game.  If you want to cry over nefed pirates add another Visious AI to the game...your mom will still think you are cool (and let you stay in her basement), even if it IS just a race and not the pirates.

The name of the game is "Diplomacy".  How anyone could construe this game as diplomacy is beyond me.

From Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy ):

Diplomacy is the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of groups or states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace-making, trade, war, economics and culture. International treaties are usually negotiated by diplomats prior to endorsement by national politicians.

In an informal or social sense, diplomacy is the employment of tact to gain strategic advantage or to find mutually acceptable solutions to a common challenge, one set of tools being the phrasing of statements in a non-confrontational, or polite manner.

I was really expecting a game where real diplomacy would be in place.  All it is now is fight the pirates and f*** everyone else.

Pirates are not equal to another player and I wasnt saying that, they only can attack 1 planet. What is dumb is using pirates as easy experience, I can sit there all day just off pirates and build lvl 10 fleets. The new Diplomacy expansion to a point prevented that, yes they are a little tough, but they should be. They should not be easy, when has any pirate been cannon fodder?

quite agree with everyone else

as the creator of a mod called powerful pirates (which by the way, made even the 1.0 pirates of diplomacy seem like sissys) I loved fighting the uber pirates

sadly other issues came up that ruins the whole gaming experience

namely

THE AI CAN'T HANDLE THEM!

this caused the game to suck, they needed to be nerfed just to make the game better
