A book with a story like that of the Vasari?

I am so intrigued by the question 'Who are chasing the Vasari?', that it made me hungry for more.

With the lack of good SciFi series these past years. I am hoping there is more to be found in the book department. Since i'm not really familiar with this genre I'm hoping someone can give some good tips.

So basically I'm hoping someone can recommend me a book where the story goes something like this. Superior race that is domination the galaxy is scared shitless by a unknown entity and is now fighting for its own survival.

It's a fantastic idea for a story, but I personally know no such books (well most of my sci-fi books are WH40k novels so I wouldn't know).

But if I had any writing skills (which I don't) I would turn the idea into a story.

I am pretty sure Ironclad already promised they would answer the question of "who is chasing the Vasari" before they are done with Sins.   There have been not-always-subtle hints that there is a major expansion pack coming out, and they certainly promised to eventually provide more story content

In Dune, from Frank Herbet, the last books let us know that the "bad guys" (who were in fact bad girls) were in fact fleeing from an ever bigger threat.

If only Herbert didn't die ... *sigh*

I personally am a bit sceptical wether they will reveal the identity of the "Vasari hunters". Because if Ironclad would reveal who the "hunters" are that would mean that they've entered trader space which means that Ironclad would have to include them as a faction. The problem is that, as they've easily defeated an empire that could have wiped out the TEC and Advent several times, they would have to be super powerful which would destroy the balance, or they would have to be toned down which wouldn't fit to the background story.

I think that, if they are included, they will turn up in end game to forcefully end the match if it's taking too long. That would suit the story much better than having then being a normal faction.

Their scouts have already shown up, the evil bloodthirsty Space Stallions are chasing the Vasari and are softening up the TEC and Advent with the Space Ponies.
