How does Sins select star/planet names?

Alright, i'm in the progress of renaming some stuff in the English.str file and i was wondering how Sins selects these things, does it give a star / planet a random name or does it do the first name first, then the second for the second planet / star and then the 3rd etc?

Also, I guess that its not possible (without some more complex modding anyway) to make specific planets go in specific stars, for example, if the start England has been made, then the planets around England would be called london, Edinburg, Manchester, etc (Asuming those names are entered into the English.str of course)

It randomly selects them from the list of names in the string file. So yeah, its not really possible. If you just want this for a specific map though, you can use the galaxy forge to make a map where you can name the planets/stars whatever you want.

You could also rename the planets you control in the game. But that still leaves the planets you don't control... I wonder if the names are reset when you lose control of a planet...

I don't think so. But there is no way to rename stars or uncolonizable planets.

besides the point is that if they tell me some planet is being attacked, i know which planet they are talking about without pressing space, names i'm familiar with stay better in my memory, i have no idea where the current names are based on but they sure don't ring any bells for me >_<

anyway, i got it to work (mostly) just made a simple script that lists the same amount of countries as there are starnames and dutch cities for the planets, then just copy paste the list and voila, my hometown is now a dead astroid....
