Cielo really necessary?

In a TEC fleet, is there really a need for Cielos?  Seems like the Akkan passive ability to coordinate is sufficient.

...or maybe I'm not seeing the true value of the Cielo?

It isn't really. Its researchable ability is somewhat useful as it allows you to destroy focus fired targets quicker, but for the most part you will use few if any of them.

Mediocre unit.  It's useful, but not mandatory like the Hoshiko is.  The reason to get 5 labs as TEC is still the Kodiak.

I love the Cielo.  All you need is about 5-10, but the abilities are useful, even the embolden one.

actually, increased shield regen and rate of fire coupled with 40% damage increase to enemy ships is quite good, isnt it?

Cielo looks so cool. I love how it looks. But I have only seen it in screen shots.

+40% damage.  That is great for taking down capitals and SB's.  Its not mandatory, but if you have five labs, get it.

Its good, just like having enough Hushiko's is good they can make a fleet ridiculously survivable, and makes it so you'd be better to focus on the Hushiko's. I play Advent, so subjugators are alright but I like the Hushiko's.

If you're going to use Cielos, you have to get a least six military labs for Designate Target. Embolden is decent, but the real reason to use the ship is for Designate Target. And even that's main purpose is to take down Starbases and caps. The damage increase is enormous.

Otherwise, the Cielo isn't very useful. You won't even need more than 8-10 late-game, unlike Hoshis which are completely incredible ^_^

Cost-benefit, my good man.  Kodiaks shred things on their own; Hoshikos permit them to survive long enough to do so (both by healing them and by shutting down enemy units, in certain circumstances).  Cielos help your existing units shred things a little faster, which, if you think about it, is just like adding another few combat ships, regardless.  So, if you think about it, either way you're just improving the stopping power of your fleet.

Now, if Embolden provided a boost to ANTIMATTER regen instead of RoF, you'd be in business.  The possibility gets me excited just thinking about it. :P

You already got a anti-matter regen bonus from your culture though.

Might be a bit OP if you got extra regen on top of that. :/
