I think it's "Distant Stars" with the colonisable stars and I saw the comment by the guy saying "you can't do that".  I know it represents orbiting colonies but I have an additional idea to make it usable in another way.

Take a star model and make a "ring world" around it.  The size of a Ring World is millions of times the surface area of earth and the next step up is a Dyson sphere which is hundreds of thousands of times larger.

Obviously having planets with thousands and especially hundreds of thousands of times the population and production and logistics is too much for Sins but a partially compltel/occupied Ring World could be a "mega industrial planet" and a sun with a ring construction around it would be a cool model (obviously not to scale though)..
