How do I add

Weapons to Light Carriers

There's a lot of different tools and I'd really rather not just break the game when trying to do this.  I have Sins with all the expacs and one thing that always bugged me was that the Light carriers just fly around getting shot when there strike craft are off doing work.  So I want to add a weapon to them.  I was thinking either a missile or auto cannon for TEC, Missile for Vasari, and a laser for Advent that's as powerful as the respective races frigates.  I just have no idea where to begin.

 

What tool should I be using?  I downloaded ForgeTools3 but they don't work (I probably skipped over where to install it properly) and I don't know which of the tools to use to do this anyways.  Just looking for a little help here.

wake4 here is a outline of what to do

1 create a mod folder in your mods-v1.191/mods-entrenchment v1.051/mods-diplomacy v1.011 folder with the name of your mod

2a then copy (for sins ONLY) the entire gameinfo, mesh,particle,string,textureanimations,textures & window folders from your game installed location into your mod's folder

2b if modding entenchment OR diplomacy copy the .manifest files to the mods folder, then make a Gameinfo folder in your mod's folder, and copy FROM the expansion's gameiinfo folder under sins program folder, the entity files you want to change, and from the expansion's mesh folder the ships mesh files

3 download and extract and run either my textbin gui or bcextreme's  and convert all the files in the mod to text

4 edit the entity files that yu want to change, and in the example you gave also edit the meshes to add the weapon points in each side of the mesh( I have not done any modeling in sins so can not advise how to)

5 test the mod in the developer build exe to see what problesm happen and try to fix them.

and appantly sins assumes that if there is a weapon then the ship WILL chase after the targets it is best against so it might be better for the carriers to not have a weapon.

that's why I was thinkin long range missiles.  So they chase but not very far or to give them the anti fighter weapons so they can atleast defend themselves.

Is there a limit to the number of weapon types we can add?  I wanted to toy with a combination LF/LRF/Light Carrier/Flak Cruiser to be used as the only ship a faction has.

Every ship can have 3 weapons, with eaching being a different weapon type. You can also have this ship have strikecraft, so theoretically you could do this. Good luck making that balanced though.

Balance...right/  Forgot about that.

I'll do one for each faction.  Last off-topic question:  Can I add weapons through research?  (Like have it be LF/Carrier, then add Flak and LRF later through researches?)

So far I don't think you can have it enable weapons like that. I know you can do ABILITIES- so maybe if you gave it the flak cannon of the KOL and made it so that you have to research it or the gauss cannon- but other than that I'm pretty sure you can't.

You might be able too, look at the researchable flak cannons on the TECs hangar bays in Entrenchment. In fact I'm pretty sure you will be able to. The modelling for such a ship will probably be the hardest thing though.

If by modelling, you mean the actual physical ship, then I intend to use the Daedalus Cruiser model from a Stargate mod i recently found.  (And must find again once i get my comp back.)

If not, please tell me what that is?

If you just mean making the weapons appear on my ship, then I'm not really worried about that.  Honestly, I'd be okay with just changing the Percheron to be this ship, though I would eventually want it to be visible, so IDK.  Function then pretty paint :p  Thanks for the heads up though.
