[Map] Solar System (Realistic and Playable!)

Check it out!

Well guys, after a few excel spreadsheets, and some intense dwarf planet and asteroid research, I have managed to put together a decent SINS map that recreates OUR solar system and is 100% playable for 4 players!

Some interesting things about this map:

-Every single object is a real one. Real planets, real asteroids, real dwarf planets! Not all of them, of course, but enough to make this playable!

-(Here is the difficult one that I'm proud of!) All distances from the sun are correct, relative to each other, to within + or - .1 AU!

-FOUR players can play it!

-Fun artifacts on the major planets!

To install, stick it in Documents and settings/local settings/application data/ironclad games/sins of a solar empire/galaxy forge

And then go to the galaxy forge maps when you open sins!

The only thing I must admit about the map is that I had to have a few LARGE phase jumps...these are near your homeworlds (which are located out near pluto and beyond) and take a bit over a minute to jump. This is realistic in scale, and don't worry, there is an asteroid waiting on the other side to accomodate your frontline base! Plus, makes you realize the distances a bit more!

Give it a shot, and give me feedback!

(Forgive the shameless bump, accidentally edited it and it dropped from the frontpage! Give it a chance : ) )

This map is really really cool.

and i really like the long phase lanes, however, while the distances from the homeworlds to the inner planets is scaled to reality, it means that some of the phase lanes are significantly shorter... which means that some players can reach the inner planets significantly faster than other players... at least what i can tell from my first game... you might want to consider rotating a few of the planets around in their orbits to slightly elongate a few of the phase lanes. (this way thier distance to the sun is unchanged.

Although... I havent totally explored the whole map yet... I would not be suprised if you balanced it by pairing the other far out planets in such a way that you might be farther from sol, but your closer to the termination shock (very cool))

Its also very fun having a lack of metal for once, its uasually the crystal prices that are high, not the metal ones.

Give this a slightly better name, and get darvin to stick it in his map pack!

I wonder if i can convince the DS guys to make our next game this map...

Edit: you should make a DS version.   that way venus isnt a volcanic planet.

There was also a really cool mod a long while ago that was trying to make a real scale version of every planet in our solar system. While I don't think they need to be true to scale, if you could dig up those textures it would be really cool to use with this.

The outer planets (er, dwarf planets) were carefully selected so that their distances from the sun would be very comparable. They are all within 8 AU of each other, and they are up to 47 AU out, so the difference in phase lane length is measured in seconds. I originally wanted to use further out planets like Sedna and Eris (88-96 AU!), but this definitely wouldn't be balanced.

I was also considering connecting the termination shocks, to make a very long backdoor to your enemy, but I figured this might be more annoying than anything!

I wouldn't mind trying out new textures, if it was easy to implement.

Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks for playin' it!

Yep, do it on DS  they made models of all the planets in sol, so you could use them mate.

actually that came from another mod we incorporated, but yeah, we have the planets in our mod now think I will update and give to FlyingNinja if he wants them
