Beauty Mods?

I'm new to the game, I'm looking for skin/texture/shader replacement mods.

Hi there, i'm really new to SOASE and noticed the whole mods capabilities, as i'm really new to the game i didn't want to go for mods that change the gameplay to much. What i'm really looking for are mods that will make the gome look gorgeous I've been doing a little bit of a look around and i noticed a mod called "Bailknight's Graphic Mod" which i have installed and have to say it does make the battles look rather spectacular.

Is there any detailed information as to what exactly this mod changes in game? am i right in thinking it adds new textures to more than just the 'bullets/lazers' e.t.c.

I don't seem to see any difference in textures on ships, allthough i may be missing that they have actually been changed. I watched a video of the mod on youtube and the ships on the video look ALLOT nicer than mine in game, is it possible that there were more than just that mod active in that video?

I would like to know if there are any decent ship retexture mod for this game, if so, which of them would this community class as the 'must have' re-texture mods.

I had a look at the '7 deadly sins' mod, but noticed the dates seemed quite old on the posts that mentioned it (back in 2008), is that mod still being updated? i also noticed it made allot of game changes/alterations/additions and didn't want to confuse myself more so than trying to learn a game as deep as this already does.

Basically, what mods would i need to install to get the game to look 'as good as you can do' at this point in the development of mods from this modding community? What version of the game do you need for said mods to work? (i have diplomacy 1.01 is that the latest version?) Are there any 'does it all' texture overhauls?

Are there also sound replacement mods?, i'm finding the vanilla sounds to be a little annoying, i have turned most of the sound sliders right down. I noticed part of the 7 deadly sins package involved sound replacement and music replacement, is it possible to get hold of these without installing the overall 7 deadly sins mod? i wouldn't want to for reasons explained previously.

In closing, i re-iterate that what i am looking to achieve is an 'aesthetic' overhaul of the game to its current capability while changing as little of the gameplay as possible.

Help attaining this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Peace.

nothing really with the skins have been redone only the weapons fire and explosions

there are some mods with enhanced planets (more planet types no looks) but nothing beyond that

The difference in ship textures was probably do to the game being played on a higher graphics setting. The only retexture of an in game unit I can think of was a project a while ago to replace the Kodiak heavy cruiser with another ship, but I don't know if that went anywhere.

this is a quote from the 7 deadly sins mod page "Dozens of custom ship models, including those from HammerSun, i Nert, EvilJedi, Kiedjor, DANMAN, and the X3: Reunion development team."

I have my graphics setting on highest and play at 1280*1024 with bloom enable and on board Anti Aliasing, Still, it doesn't seem as though it looks as nice as the one on the video, i'll show you.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5azoHPU6udA&feature=related

The ships in that video look 'better' somehow.

To be fair i'm wondering if that mod actually works with this version, i read a little up on modding this game and it seems mods are 'so' specific to versions it may be a big issue. Could someone tell me if that mod works with Diplomacy 1.01?

7 deadly sins? unsure, I do know that mod has had a lot of issues due to its complexity

Bailknights mod on the other hand is simple and is rarely in need of an update

this is the latest link for Bailknight's kept up by Moguta, Bailknight is no longer on the forum boards

Thats the link i download Bailknights Mod, for Diplomacy V 1.01

I'm having another bit of an issue though, "LazySumos_Minimal" UI mod doesn't work. You have to extract the Mod folder into your installation directory, after backing up our installation directoy you run a 'bat' file in the mod folder and it is meant to do whatever it does to change the UI to a minimal UI. It doesn't work for me, i've followed the steps to a T and nothing happens to the UI in game.

Could someone give me a little help on why this may be happening and what steps i can take to get it to work. If possible give me steps on how to install it manually (i think i may have asked this in a different post i made, i'm getting a real sense of Dejavu)

most likely because that mod is for the very ancient Sins Vanilla (without the x-packs) 1.05

will
not
work
any more

also, i THINK that 7DS has Volumetric Explosions linked in as well, so with just bailknight's mod it would look the same... (unless the two are linked)

the current Bailknights Mod is now Combined with Volumetric Explosions in it's current form

Another good combination is the Bailknight/Sins Plus mod (available on filefront via linkage in the Sins Plus thread) I've got that and its awesome :)

End of HarryMcGrath's quote

Aha!  I think I know what's puzzling you:

I took that video with the "Ship highlight filter" set to OFF in the graphics options.  Seems to make things look a bit more realistic.  The highlight filter is on by default to make the ships brighter and more easily visible, but the lighting is a bit unnatural.  Bailknight's Graphic Mod is definitely the only mod I used.
