You will probably be able to recruit people if you have some of the art assets already completed. Even if you have great enthusiasm, people want to know that if they put time into this project that it is going to go somewhere, and because I highly doubt there are a lot of modeled and textured Mass Effect ships available, that is going to be where most of your work is. If you have the art resources or skills to make them, you'll be able to find people to help with this.

So you decided Sins of a Solar Empire needs yet another attempted total conversion mod. Here is why it doesn't.

This idea is:

[ ] Already in progress
[X] Someone else's IP
[ ] Someone else's _niche_ IP
[ ] So niche as to limit the available # of modders available to work on the project
[ ] From an IP that has no visual media
[ ] From an IP that has only stylized media
[X] Is somewhat original but cliche (i.e. a thinly disguised clone of Halo or another popular IP) and has no sign of any additional storyline work

As far as gameplay, it:

[ ] Asks for a series of gameplay changes that are completely unworkable
[ ] Attempts to shoehorn some other universe's mechanics into Sins
[X] Asks for nothing but a string change and introduces no new gameplay

The original poster:

[X] Doesn't assert ability to do scripting
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do modeling
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do skinning
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do UI elements
[X] Doesn't assert ability to do anything else but give ideas
[ ] Can do any of the above, but shows off none of it
[ ] Can do modeling, but shows an unskinned low-poly render

In short, you need to rethink this because:

[X] Ideas are not a very valuable commodity: coming up with one is the easiest part of modification creation
[X] Asking for additional ideas from the masses rather than having a team discuss what is possible in the engine and what is not is a Very Bad idea and leads to false expectations
[X] Recruiting those with talent is unfair to them and unfair to the community if you have no expectation of what your mod will entail and how long it will take
[ ] Someone is already working on this, or something very similar to it, and you should probably just find their thread and comment there
[X] You should write a design doc and get skilled at one of the above
[X] You should do this yourself and see if interest in collaboration pops up
[ ] You should join an existing team
[ ] Half the world has probably not heard of the IP you're basing this idea on
[ ] You need to seriously reconsider your definition of a "mod" as opposed to a "game"
[X] Model replacements bring nothing new to the table, unless they are REALLY good models
[X] Nobody in the community with a wealth of talent is cruising the Modding forums just looking for an idea.

...

End of Swiss's quote

Wow that is quite a checklist, is that from somewhere or did you just make that up yourself right now? Anyways, while it is a bit harsh, Swiss Knight has pretty much nailed your problem and you should try to eliminate as many of those X's as possible, then a Mass Effect mod may finally start to be developed.

I'm no good with modding but I wouldn't mind making maps :) anything I can do to help out in a mass effect mod.  Just make sure we have the citadel :D

people, i have decided to make the mod for starwars empire at war: FOC because it has space & ground battles :)

so to apply to the new link go here: http://www.moddb.com/company/blacknova-studios

Why the hell would you move to FoC?  FoC has ground battles, but crappy ones, and its space battles are nowhere near as good as the ones in Sins can be.

ya but i think that that game suits more, and i dont have the micro expansion only the original :(

oke to let people choose i will start an poll :) here at sins forum, i will post an link soon.

Bye the way i dont know anything about sins mdding, also FOC but i saw halo: CAW so i thought he FOC will work :)

f i stay with sins is there any body that want to be the co leader? to help start of? :D

Well, if you don't have the expansions for Sins, buy them.  They're cheap and completely worth it.

And if you really want to learn about Sins modding, there are multiple tutorials at the top of the modding forum as stickies.  Reading them would be a good place to start.

brr foc -.- stay with sins or mod hw2 there you only have to make some ship models (and hw2 have no realy limitations)
