My friend keeps getting this message evrytime he tries to log in, for almost a year now.

His computer can more than run the game, he has cable internet. (faster than mine). and no anti virus as well as disabling the firewall. He also is not using a router. and game is up to date.

I had him do a tracert here are the results.

That is most of it, after the numbers were some long leters and stuff and I am to tired.

Does he use residential cable or is he on a university network or similar which may be blocking traffic on ports beyond the basic network functions?

Yes, he is at a university. However some other MMO's work fine there like WoW and I know he plays some other ones.

But if it is the University is there any way they can resolve the problem for him or no? He has to tell the university which PS3 games he wants to play online otherwise they wont work, however there is no option for pc games.

He'll need to have them allow traffic on ports 6000 and 7000 (just those two, not a range). Additionally 6112 if he wants to host games, though many games use that one so it should already be available.

So, we also need to open port 7000?  I only have 6000 and 6112 open and haven't really had any problems.
