I managed to install it but I was wondering if there is a way to use mods. I tried to find the normal .../Ironclad Games/SoaSE/ folder but it doesn't even exist. In fact, the entire /Ironclad Games folder doesn't exist within the wine environment. A fresh install might fix this so I'll try that.
Simply use Konqueror... and look at the screenshot below ... beware that ".wine" is a hidden directory... if there is no mod directory, start the game and click the "show mod path"... make it for sins, Ent and Dip...
Also, how would I go about updating the game? Would I have to update in Vista and then copy all the files and folders on to a hard drive, then to Linux
Update in your Windows version and copy the full directory in your wine directory... for copy, there is two method... add a driver in windows who allow it to see the ext2-3 partition ( can meshup the linux journaling system )... on on Linux, copy directly from the windows drive to the Linux drive ( Linux support natively a bunch of partition format but be sure that you have mount the windows drive )...
If you plan a lot of gaming with Linux, i advice you to install "playonlinux" ( http://www.playonlinux.com/en/ ) ...
Why ?
First example with sins of solar empire... you can install several version of it... let say that you have only the actual version and that tomorrow a new patch is out... you can keep the old version with working mod and install the new one too... on windows, people switch between backup, with playonlinux, it is a single click... in fact, you can run different version in the same time in windowed mode...
A other example... Mass Effect 2 executable don't work with wine... but "playonlinux" have install script who create a launcher who allow run the .exe ... in some cache, it is simply a rollback of Wine, where new version don't always allow game who was working presiously to continue work... with time, you will have maybe 10 or more version of one but it will not be a problem...
Finaly, if you have game using Steam game, you have a script for make run steam on Linux... http://www.playonlinux.com/repository/?script=4 ...
A last advice... for game who use a lot of 3D, dissable the 3D desktop ( beryl/compiz/... ) for more frame rate... in rare case, 3D desktop don't allow the game to run... similar problem with 3D Vista ( Aero/deskpace/... )...
