SINS not responding

1 minute not responding period before SINS load

Hi recently I have problem that is becoming really annoying.

While loading SINS (all 3 versions) before company logos come up game has a black screen. And lately that black screen freezes for about a minute every time before company logos start showing up. Task manager says game is not responding. As I said game starts without me doing anything but after 1 min not responding period.

Now same thing was happening before on same system (no updates or recent installs other than web cam software - but it doesn't run in the background) but it usually happened from 1 - 10 sec and never longer and time varied. 1-10 sec problems occurred on same version of SINS I'm running now (latest). So there is no changes in game update.

And yes I did try to reinstall the game from scratch. Same problems occur.

I have rig that goes over the top with Sins.

My spec:

i7-920

6 GB 1333 Mhz ram

2x GTX 285 1GB ram in SLI

ASUS XONAR 1.3HDAV (all audio video goes trough it)

300 GB free space of HD

Win7 Home Premium

Might try defragging.

Try navigating to the following folder:

XP:      C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting
Vista/7: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Try moving the 'user.settings' and 'diplomacy.user.settings' files to a different location, run the game again, and see if the issues persist.

When I ran defrag program said that disk was defragmented just 2%. Did defragmentation anyway but problem persists.

I did try Rosco_P solution and it does help and game loads in approximately same time as before. 1-10 sec.

Now i wonder why didn't re-install helped. Shouldn't settings go to release settings.

And after changing settings back to the way I like them game loads much faster.

Thank you for your fast and effective help it is very appreciated.

It's actually common practice for newer games not to delete settings like that when the game is uninstalled, just in case you want to reinstall at a later time.  That way everything is still how you like it, with all of your saved games, etc.

Glad you're back up and running, though!

And that's the reason why every now and then format C: is a good thing to do.
