They do not have any real use in game, but they give you an achievement.

At least not any use that I can find.

For some reason I did not get the achievement when I got space ponies at a pirate base.

From my understanding it came from some redoubtably crazy posts from the beta. While that was even before my time in this game, I've come to like them, and it is pretty funny. I mean once you think about it every game needs a mascot, and what else can Sins have except space ponies!

There was a group of beta tester who called themselfs the Space Ponies. They sent the Dev team space pony hats and such. As part of the ongoing joke/tribute they add Space Ponies into the game.

They do nothing, but give you an achivement. Ive yet to get them, and I dont know how many games Ive played.

I have had one(as already mentioned) and it did not give me the achievement.
