game slowing down

Okay so after a little bit of play time (several minutes not just one or two), the game starts to slow down, and it just keeps getting slower. even on small lists with the graphics turned all the way down and zoomed out entirely. I have a Geforce 7600 GS Graphics card and 2 GB of Ram and a AMD athalon 64 2.8 Ghz Dual Core. What do I need to do to speed up the game?

He shouldn't be having trouble with those specs.

Have you patched to the most recent version?

Yes, all the way up to full, but I do have 4 more gigs of ram on the way. Civilization 4 does the same thing after the game gets into full swing. That's why I'm thinking it is ram issues.

not really as the game only uses 2 gig no matter what, myfist0's recommendation is what is necessary for long games

The games don't use any more than 2 gigs, but the operating system has overhead on top of that, so you do get additional performance out of an additional gig.

ah, only the original sins is patched up to V 1.191, entrenchment isn't, but the original sins is just as slow after a while.

Entrenchment version is: 1.051

no that is Entrenchment's top version

Original is V 1.191

Entrenchment is V 1.051

Diplomacy is V 1.011

This game just starts to lag later in the game when there are numerous large fleets.  The Sin Optimization Mod sounds like a great idea.  I just wish I could get everyone who plays Sins in online multiplayer to start using the Optimization Mod so that we can reduce later-game lag.

I think it should be built in the settings for multi-player and single-player. Or at least made a pinned sticky.

maybe the devs will incorporate it or use it to make their own changes to improve lag
